alright, just what is water injection?

I see all kinds of threads talking about water inj this and that, but no explanation of just what in the heck it is?!?! A simple explanation would be greatly appreciated!

Water/Meth injection is used to cool and aid combustion in diesel operation. Guys with radical big injectors and larger turbos get to a point where EGT's start getting real scary and for sustained full-grunt runs as in sled pulling competition Water/Meth injection adds substantial horsepower and impressive cooling control of EGT's. Even a mildly BOMBED diesel for a guy pulling a load up hill on a long run can benefit from this.



TDR issue 57 (most recent) has an article about it that may shed additional light on this subject.



Installation of this BOMB is pretty simple... it is another reservoir of liquid that you must keep an eye on.

How bout the stock head gasket, will it hold up to water, water/meth inj. ?

Sure, as long as you have an o-ringed, studded head. I know 2 guys that put water/meth in their trucks with no o-rings or studs. They both lunched their head gaskets within a month.

water reduces EGT's and increases power a little



methanol furthur reduces EGT's, increases power, but also adds a lot of effective timing and is hard on head gaskets

I was thinking about adding water injection for those times when I tow the 5er. Looks like I might have to wait a little longer if head work would be needed. Biggest project right now is finding someone that can paint the truck and do it right.

if you run straight water, you won't have to worry so much about the head gasket... it's the methanol that really increases cyl pressure
