Here you guys go. You've asked for it in the past and the volume of posts has risen to the point that it makes sense to implement it. The requests were for a biodiesel forum but we felt that it would better serve the membership if we opened it up some more and have it cover all forms of alternative fuels. dl5treez (Dan) is going to be the moderator for this forum and I thank him for volunteering.

Thanks!

I have been interested in alternative fuels for a long time and now it is nice to have my two favorite interests on the same site! Thanks! Jeremy.

I've been using Blue Sun B100 at a 20% concentration to dino fuel and am happy with the results. I have seen contrasting information about running B100 in the CTD. Maybe with the introduction of this forum there will be more data specific to the CTD.

Biodiesel Blue Distribution Llc: General Manager

I have started a new company (a couple months ago, already) buying and selling Biodiesel. We are located in Pepin, Wisconsin (about 70 miles southeast of Minneapolis St. Paul (Minnesota), (45 miles south of Eau Claire) (35 miles south southeast of Red Wing, MN. We have now merged with Twin Cities Biodiesel Cooperative.

I love this fuel, and my old (99) 1 ton runs terrific on it. (once the fuel filter was changed). We are also running a Gehl Skidster, a Peterbilt 379 (N14 Cummins), a Mack, a Kenworth (ISX Cummins), and a ford backhoe.

The smell of the exhaust is different (sweet), and we have plenty of power. There is gelling problems (that we are starting to deal with) and plenty of information to learn. I love it. . .

What kind of fuel filter did you change to? Do you need one that has a separate heater to keep the fuel from gelling from the time you start-up? After the truck runs for a while the filter is heated, right? But what do you do for the pre-start up if one wanted to run B100 from WVO? I'm just starting to put together the equipment for a biodiesel home brew setup. Any info on worthwhile truck modifications would be most helpful. - Brian

filter

We are finding filters 10 microns or less are clogging up on B80, B90, B100 in colder weather (30 degress or colder). We are searching for filters that are 30 microns or more. The biodiesel seems to clog up the filters as it is colder and and denser.

Info is available on many sites especially the Biodiesel Board. . . Also Willy Nelson has a biodiesel site. Much info available ( gotta go (WAY TOO MUCH TO DO!! ) More later . . .

Additives

Regular diesel additives will work only on the diesel fuel in the mixture

(B50: the 50% diesel fuel in the mixture.

Primrose, and Power Service have additives specificly designed for Biodiesel. . . . (We have been using the Primrose for only 3 weeks now, and have 2 55 gal barrels of Power Service coming. . . )
