I've been hearing a lot about biodiesel. Has anyone experimented or fully converted over to biodiesel? What are the long term effects (positive or negative)? I have a friend that is a jet mechanic and tells me that his company throws away nearly 100 gallons of JP5 every day... . is it possible to use this fuel in my truck. Are there mods that will allow the use of JP5 or will dilution with oil make it useable?

Don't know about JP5??? I believe it's used soley by Naval aircraft operations for jet engines. Also, if they are "throwing fuel out" there's a chance it's contaminated.

But, when the Army and some Air Force went to JP8 to simplify the fuels they carried for vehicles, tanks, equipment, helicopters and jets, we had a lot of vehicle and equipment injection pumps burnt up. Especially the distributor type. The inline type seemed to handle it better. The JP8 just doesn't have adequate lubrication to protect the pumps. Later on, they started putting an additive in and calling it JP8+100. Still had a problem with this in Iraq, especially with the heat. If that's similar to what your buddy has, definitely don't use it straight.

The attachment photo shows about half of the diesel vehicles and tows my 12 man crew were responsible for maintaining/repairing during Operation Iraqi Freedom 2003. The 5-ton trucks have the Cummins NHC-250 or 6CTA 8. 3L diesel engine with Allison 5 speed MT654CR transmissions, with a few deuce and 1/2's / M49 fuel trucks with the Continental 478 Cubic Inch diesels (multi-fuel, burns almost anything:-laf ), and HMMWV's with the 6. 5L and 4L80E transmissions.
