The alternator crapped out on my truck.

For some reason I could have swore the truck had a 160amp alternator stock.

Napa only lists a 120amp alternator for the truck.

They do list a 136 amp for a 2002 truck though... not sure if they are different or something?

What is the stock alternator's amperage?? And what should I run? I see on eBay 220 amp ones for $300.

On my '01 it is the 136A one. Check the brushes, it might be that they are worn out and just need to be replaced. Also you can take it into a local rebuilder and they can fix it up.

Thanks.

Hopefully I will be able to get the truck home tonight since I had to leave it in the parking lot at work last night and hitch a ride. Made it to work in the AM and that's all she had.

My buddy has a Cummins as well so he said we'll just swap batteries if need be to get it home.

I'm going to see if I can fix it myself before I send off to the shop. Doesn't seem that complicated.

Well I got a reman'd unit from Carquest.

It's charging now, though it's reading 14. 4v output (tested with multimeter).

Does that sound ok? I'm used to seeing 13. 8v.

I had the batteries on a charger for the past few days and they are 100%.
