HELP! Truck died while coming home from Maryland...

I have my Alternator off of the truck because it's not charging and to have tested.



Is it true that the PCM could be bad and not telling the ALternator to do it's thing?



Or, so I'm told... ... .

Yes. The engine speed sensor also. There too is an auto shutdown solenoid on the driver fender well. I'd have to look in the FSM to i. d. which one it is.



A good manual will tell you how and what to test in a logical order. Off hand I cannot tell you the order but it begins with the plug at the crank speed sensor. The plug be next to the thermostat housing.

I'll pull out my tatered, taped back together manual and look the Procedure up.



Also, tried to call the Cummins dealer for a price on a Crank Position Sensor.

Alternator

Do a search on my recent posts, there are some good suggestions by the guys

of ways to test, on the truck, off, and what to look for etc. Autozone and others will test free for you. Good luck... . RC
 
Good News... . In a way!



The Alternator is fried and is in for a rebuild. The least expensive of all options.
