Having another interesting prob. When starting in the am, it seems that the alternator is cycling. The dome lights dim, the rpm goes down slightly and voltage drops from about 14V to about 11V. Lasts about 2 seconds then kicks back up again for about 7 seconds and over and over. Is this normal?. I think my idle has dropped off a bit recently. Used to be about 750, now seems to be about 600-650. Could this have something to do with it?. The alternator is less than a year old. JohnG

Sounds like winter has arrived in Fresno! Inlet air heaters cycle frequently after start up, placing large load on alternator.

Ah Ha!. . Inlet grid heaters cycling. . ?! (I wouldn't have thought they'd cycle, though) I've only been a Diesel guy for less than 2 yrs, and still learning. . That makes sense, as it only occurs when warming up in the am, and yes, it's been a bit cool. It's been in the low 40's in the am. . So I guess I can live with it. Thanks for the info. . JohnG
