alternator pulley

i'm trying to replace the pulley on my alternator with the kilby combo pulley. When i put the new pulley on, do i just use a regular hex nut on the spindle because it appears to me that the guts of the OEM pulley which originally hold it on are built into the pulley. thanks in advance for any help.
