Teach me, oh oil burning brothers... .

Does the 160 amp alternator that comes on the hemi readily fit the Cummins? The parts guy at the dealer acted like I should'nt put a big aftermarket alt on my 24 valve.

I know the big stereo guys like 'em. (I got a couple of snowplows and a spreader that would LOVE one)

Will they harm a diesel engine? Melt my truck down? Make the batteries blow up? What? Wouldn't it charge your batteries faster or no?

Help? Brian :)

I bought a 205amp alternator on my 2001, seems to work well driving my 3/4hp air compressor + the heated seats + heat fan on high + heater grid + lights, well you get the idea. Got it on eBay last year for around $250 also be sure to order the extra alternator to battery cable (I left the OEM still hooked up as well). Their # is 1-800-607-0016 .

Throttlejockey... BE VERY CAREFUL DEALING WITH ALTERSTART!!!!!!

I had a less than good experience with them. I bought a 165 amp alternator for my yj Wrangler. In less than a year (on heavy duty cycle) it failed. Alterstart said... no no no, there's no way you could tell it failed. They said there was no way I could have the equipment to test something to 165 amps. Checked battery, starter, and wire connections... they were all fine.

I tried to contact them again and they said, ''yeah whatever we'll send you a warranty form. You pay shipping and we'll see if it's messed up"

The warranty form didn't come immediately either.

I had a local stereo shop and O'riellys check the alternator. At 2500RPMs it had 87amps. It was supposed to have 80 amps at idle and 165 at 1600 RPMS.

At that point I chose to stop dealing with them.

I should note that at first they were very helpful talking to me. We had some nice chats about circuitry and electronics.

Then when warranty time came about they were very gruff and condescending when I tried to talk to them.
