i was driving hope for the holidays last night and got about 100 miles from were i was going when the amp guage dropped to zero. as i pulled in the driveway of were i was headed the truck died. would not restart, acted like the batteries were dead which made sence as i suspected that the alternator crapped out on me. charged the batteries last night and this morning the truck starts and with the charger plugged in the amp gauge works so i am suspecting the alternator is bad. my question is what amp alternator do i replace with as there seems to be lots of options? any help would be appreiciated. happ thanks giving!

I replaced mine with one from auto zone. Was the only place in town with one and at the time I needed it now. Seems to be doing the job and has a lifetime guarantee. Exact stock replacement.

I've owned several of these trucks..... we've found that at a given mileage, that seems to be unique to each truck we'd wear out the alternator brushes... We'd keep a set of brushes on the shelf and when the truck reached 200K miles we'd do both the brushes and the bearings... usually under $20 in parts. .

When I was transporting out of IN I found an Amish electrical shop that did outstanding quality alternator and starter repair for a modest price. I had had one rebuilt at home and it failed due to careless worksmanship. If I need an alternator refurb I'll ship my alternator back to him in IN.

Free lifetime replacements from Autozone means you'll look forward to a lifetime of exchanging them every year until you trade or sell the truck.

whats up nick check out pa performance alternators they have more amps 136 amps and 200 amps phone number is 484-971-7562 boyertown pa works very well albert.

The high output alternators are really not much of a benefit when the ECM limits the charging voltage to prevent high battery temperatures... I'm guessing that after a cold start and the use of the heating grinds when its close to 0* there might be a slight benefit but once the engine starts to warm up... its all based on temperature...

Check Rock Auto and Amazon and you may find that a new alternator isn't so expensive. In my experience, the commutator wears out also, so new brushes just buy you some time.

You could also try nation Starter and Alternator they had good prices and their stuff seems good . Ordered my heavy duty starter for my excursion thru them.
