Can anyone tell me on 1990 ctd the green and blue wire , where do they go or hook up to? I am doing a conversion to a gm suburban and I want to use all the dodge accesories and factory tensioner.
They SHOULD go to an external voltage regulator; in the 89-90 Dodges, it is behind the exhaust down pipe, on the upper part of the firewall. From there, I am not too sure. I would think they somehow end up at the battery.
I'll be interested to see some pics when you're done! my neighbor is about to put a first gen CTD in his suburban also. I'd like to do the same thing eventually my self.
In my experience the GM alternators are allot cheaper, more plentiful and are internally regulated, so if you can get one to fit on it might save you money in the long run.
however on a schematic for a 88' thru 91' RAM van it shows a dark blue wire going to a 12v Ignition wire and dark green wire going to engine controller harness location 2-14. If you don't have the engine controller you can get a external voltage regulator off of any older chrysler car with a v-8 or at least the wiring harness. Get a new regulator from any parts store if you want to play it safe. the harness will have 2 wires, a light green and a red. the light green will connect to the dark green from the alternator and the red will go to a 12v ignition source with the dark blue wire from the alternator. Last summer the voltage regulator in the computer on my 91' ram van went out right before our memorial day weekend trip and I could not find an engine controller in stock any where! so I went to the local salvage yard and took the external regulator off of a 80's Dodge truck. I wired it up and it got me through until I found another engine computer. Best of luck with your conversion.
