Air bag question

Has anyone used ALUMBRITE by Walbernize before on aluminum trailers? And if so were did you get it and were you pleased with the results? I have a 4Star aluminum horse trailer and the truck wash that I always took it to closed and it needs to be washed. I heard about Alumbright from a friend. Did a search on TDR and could not find any info.

OK, I will ask a slightly differnet question. What do you use to clean your aluminum trailers? I can not be the only person on this website that has an aluminum trailer that would like to keep it clean.

Yeah - me too Oo. I just became the proud owner of a pristine 81 (no kidding) Airstream trailer that had been on a farm yard for most of the past ten years. The interior is pristine but the exterior is blackened by deposits from the trees the trailer was parked under.

Any advice anyone could give on how to best clean up one of these would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I've been using a product also called alumabright that I get from a company in southern Iowa. Its a low grade acid that loosens hard to remove dirt and grime. In my opinion it works great. I spray it on with a power washer on low pressure, then increase the water pressure and rinse it off and then soap it down good to neutralize the acid and then rinse for the final time.

I use a product on my 40ft aluminium end dump called TCI503HD. I buy it from http://tmbcompanies.com . They have a lot of info on the website as to what it does and how to use it. Give them a call, they are great to talk to. The guy I speak with is Tom.

The product that I use is actually called Aluminum Clean'n Bright.

The active ingredients are sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid.

The company name is Mauer Supply. Phone number is 641 673 7565.

I assume that another company makes this for them and they put their label on it as they sell shop supplies and power washers and don't actually manufacture anything.

May take a few cans But I've always liked Nevr-Dul Comes in a blue can, and has never let me down for any cleaning project from Brass to Stainless steel.

Hi RAMTOUGH,

My Air Stream service provider here in OK City told me that there are 2 or 3 ways to deal with the problem. Short of what they told me, what I have done is to wash the outside with something like Castrol Superclean or an equal product. It takes the black deposits off and makes it look like new, but rinse it VERY well. Air streams have a coating called "Plasticoat" applied at the time of manufacture. It tends to wear away on the upper surfaces. My '70 model is starting to need attention, however if I clean it every 2 years as I stated above it looks good. One way they recommended to deal with it is to polish the trailer with a good Carnuba base wax. I do not have that much time or energy. Another way is to recoat it with "plasticoat", which is a little expensive but lasts for years. Since mine is only bad on the top 1/3 of the trailer, they told me that I could have the top painted with a white paint or roof coating. That would help the A/C to work easier and cure the bare metal problem. Hope that helps.
