Ok, I am looking at both types of exhaust, aluminized for price and stainless for its resistance. I line in northwest Indiana and drive the truck on a daily basis in the salt covered roads in the winter. How long will a aluminim exhaust hold up do you think, I would like to go that route because they are cheaper. I'm looking at either the MBRP or the Magnaflow, I just want something that I can bolt up with no cutting or welding... . Thanks for your comments!

I'm a fan of aluminized. I think in the worst of conditions you're looking at 4-5 yrs of good service. Most folks don't even have their truck that long. I can put to or three sets of those on for one stainless system, do the math, 15 years is a long time for a truck.

It's personal preference really.

I've had my aluminized system on since the truck was new in 2001 and rust isn't an issue. It's a daily driver through the winter also.

I'm about 30 miles away from you; how's that for similar conditions?

I would say very similar indeed, lol... . I have no plans to get rid of the truck anytime soon but I do believe I will go with aluminium. Thanks for your input... PC12, you do anything special with your rig out that way?

Go with the aluminized

I just put the MHRP 6100 aluminized 4" system on my truck with the "straight" option this past Saturday. With the exhaust and the BHAF I also put on, my exhaust temps dropped more than 200 degrees when you get on it. It's a little loud with the windows down but I love it. :) Any drone I can live with. Just in case I get over my childish ways(hopefully never) I ordered the muff with it also(stored in the barn). Wasn't bad on the install, just got out the sawzall and cut it between tailpipe and muff and between downpipe and exhaust pipe thru 4" adapter that was oem. Down pipe comes off and installs only one way(close fit) w/o dropping any crossmembers. Worst part was I lost one of the bolts from the downpipe to turbo junction and had to make a run to the Men's Mall. That sucker hung up someplace where I can't find it!

I've had 4 diesels over the years and never saw one that didn't last 10 years. All that oily soot lubes 'em on the inside real good. In my part of Wisconsin you'd swear the government gets a cut for every ton of salt they throw down on the roads. Truck is white not maroon after an inch of snow drops.

I say aluminized too.

I got a 4" Jardine feeding the 6" stacks and I love it. Took me about 1 hour to remove the old exhaust and install the new, sounds great, hardly any drone and best of all, it was $275 shipped to my door.

Forget about stainless.

If salt is an issue and you don't mind getting wet, climb under the truck and wash it about 1 or 2 times a year.

Nope, nothing special. Just killin' some trees and helping out the greenhouse effect. Goin' to Indy?

In retrospect, I wish I had gone with an aluminized system. It didn't take me but 2 days to figure out that MBRP's 409 SS system isn't worth a dollar. Rust spots had already started to accumulate after driving through a light rain and then they told me that it was a "magnetic" metal and that they will do that. Supposedly, the 304 system won't collect rust spots. MBRP also has the worst customer service that I've experienced for what it's worth.

Go with an aluminized system from Rip and I don't think you'll regret it.

turbodiesel_ram,

Were biased as were an MBRP ware house, but get the MBRP, the Magnaflow has a 3. 5 inch down pipe and the MBRP has a 4. 0, not a lot of difference but at the nearly same price the 4. 0 is the way to go.

Mark @ DPPI

Mark, I don't pretend to know near as much about exhausts as you do, but I know from my shopping experience that the Magnaflow system has a 4" downpipe now just as the MBRP system does. That used to be the case but not anymore.

As far as my issue goes - I got fed up with MBRP a long time ago and don't really care to deal with them anymore. I contacted MBRP about the rust issue and the drone that so many of us had experienced. Apparently, MBRP bent over backwards to help one member on here resolve his drone issue but when I called, they were all out of generosity. They went to the point of sending him a straight pipe to try free of charge and then also sent him a new design for a muffler that they were trying to use to decrease the drone.

They acknowledged that they had been having problems with the Dodges but just gave me the run-around. No one there was helpful and I was told that I would be contacted twice and have never heard a word. That was back in February. I wasn't even asking them to send me anything for free to try - I was just wanting to talk to someone about the issue but I couldn't even get that far.

Bad business if you ask me.

Yes, thats the gameplan for Saturday as soon as my wife gets home from work that morning, she'll sleep on the way down... . You headed down?

Everyone thanks for your help on the exhaust question.

I just put a 4" system on my truck and suggest that you spend a few extra $$$ and use the 4" S/S band type clamps not regular muffler clamps. They don't crimp the pipes and make it easy to align things when you are installing everything. I got the band clamps at NAPA and they were Donaldson brand. I paid $6 each.

FYI I got a MBRP 4" 409 and couldn't be happier.
