I heard that the price of mobile homes is going up due the large consumption of empty beer cans in building the Duramax.

I really do hope that the aluminum head experiment goes well. I have been involved with diesel engines most of my life and have seen little to reasure me that it is a good idea. Thermal expansion differnces is a lot to overcome in a gas engine but in a
diesel clamping forces are high, there is a tendancy to erode the head or the head gasket. There may be quite a few miles before this could happen but when it does $$$.

I have a friend who has worked on Mercedes- Benz cars for 20 years. He advised that when MB went to alum heads on their Diesels, troubles began with their reliablity. He couldn't believe that GM would go the alum head route on their Diesels. Guess time will tell.

After having changed many blown head gaskets on cast iron blocks with aluminum heads I fell over laughing when I saw that the Duramax had aluminum heads. Good luck GM!

I guess GM figured they would try to do the complete opposite of the Vega this time. Since the aluminum block did not work well under the cast iron head in the Vega, why not try an aluminum head (X 2) on a cast iron block?
Let's take it one step further, and do it on a diesel! I think the Duramex will go down in history as another GM diesel blunder.
Lets see, we got the Duramex, the 6. 5, the 6. 2, and perish the thought, the dreaded 5. 7 which could be found in the Gutless Cutlass!
Funny how history repeats itself.

Well just when the American diesel market gets up and running.
Here comes the engineers or is it the marketing team from gm that just cant learn from the past mistakes. TO SCREW UP THE AMERICAN TRUST.
As some of you know I really got bit by the 5. 7 litter (not mispelled)
We had better do something fast to warn the Americans who don't know no better. Please think fast y'all. I can hear um melting down fast
Pits Pits Pits every where you look just pits pits pits.
There I've had my very first TDR vent and I feel better now.

Don't worry, most of the guys who buy GM's don't learn. The ones who bought the 5. 7 conversion (snicker) ran out and bought the 6. 2. Then they ran out and bought the 6. 5. Then they ran out and bought the duramaxipad. I know people who tell me they've been through (as in blown up) at least one or two 6. 5's. Now they're all proud because they ran out and bought a duramax? #ad
Oh, and these will always be the guys who puff up and talk about not being caught dead in a Dodge. Talk about slow learning. I say I'd rather be caught dead in a Dodge than caught walking because I bought a Chevy #ad
I'm sorry but brand loyalty for the sake of nothing more than a name on the grill is really stupid.

I am counting the days till that idea blows up in there face (Literally). The only place aluminum heads belong is in a gas engine, and even there i have seen iron heads do better. Generous Motors seems to be getting dumber by the day.

SSHHHhhh!

Don't EVER mention the word "aluminum" in the presense of a GM owner - makes them go ballistic! Even the MILDEST mention or question related to (shhhh!) "aluminum" gives them heart palpitations, then shakes and blurred vision (not to mention, blurred JUDGEMENT!)

I try to keep up with new development in diesels with both Ford and GM, but notice the web server over at the GM site keeps crashing and losing posts - could it possibly be a "Duramax" hi-power server, using a CPU with (shhhh) aluminum heads... #ad

Never have seen a more insecure and nervous bunch than those GM fellas... #ad

While I was having my other Turbo Diesel (VW) serviced. There was an article taped to the sales window. It was from the Ward Auto mag. The article was titled "The Ten Best Engines" (Jan 2001). All but one had aluminum heads. Now I don't know how they can say the Dura-Max is one since it has not had the time to be proven. But most were German and the Dura was the only Diesel. The below site will get you to the Data on each engine.

If I let that info out, I'm sure a couple of TDR's "finest" would try to close that door again! #ad
