My wife (what a lucky girl) is getting a Mopar brush guard for Valentines day. I am trying to decide if I should go with the black steel or black aluminum. There is only $15 dollar difference between the two.
My excuse for getting a brush guard is that we travel a lot on deer populated back country roads, and I want to increase my chances of being able to drive to the next town if something happens. So I guess in that regard, the steel is probably stronger. The only advantage I can think of for the aluminum is its probably lighter. Any thoughts?

Sorry to pop your bubble, but I live a few miles from a ½ mile stretch of highway that claims over 200 deer hits per year,in my years of seeing how much a guard protects against deer damage I know why they're called brush guards not deer guards. Some folks in my parts call them deer strainers. There have been a couple instances I've seen where the guard has been pushed back by hitting a deer and caused more damage than would of happened without the guard. So to answer your question,IMHO it makes little difference if the guard is aluminum or steel except for the weight factor.

What does work though are the whistles you can install on your bumper to warn deer that you're coming, even the State Patrol cars in my area are equipped with them.

The last posting was dead on. I had a Ranchhand grill guard that had 1/2" thick plate steel for it's upright supports. Ranchhand is a very good product that mounts to the frame as well as bumper and when I hit a deer it pushed the uprights right back through the radiator. New vehicles are designed with crumple zones that absorb energy. Bolt 1/2" thick steel to your frame and there is very little give. Bottom line, you will have damage with or without the grill guard. Buy something you like and something that looks good. Aluminum won't rust!!

I bet your wife loves you too, mine got mudflaps and floor mats for her birthday. Then I gave her jewelry #ad
