2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Aluminum truck bed tool boxes

I am thinking of getting one of these to take with me on my camping trips. I just don't want to leave it in the bed permanently!

Any of you guys using one for purposes such as this? How are you mounting them to make it so you can easily take it out of the bed when your not using it??

Also, what make of box are you using? I'm looking for a good quality welded box, single lid opening, flushmount, black powder coated aluminum plate with removable tool tray... asking for alot I know, but I just know some of you guys are using these boxes like this!

I have a WeatherGuard in my truck bed for the same reason. I asked around and found that most guys thought the WeatherGuard was the best. It seals out the weather, looks real good, is built well and has an excellant lock system. That was important to me because I wanted to put my Honda generator as well as a small floor jack in it and have it be as secure as possible. .



WeatherGuard is about the most expensive but I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Do a yahoo search and their website will tell you where you can find a local dealer. I also looked at a couple on ebay but they were too far away and the sellers wouldn't ship them.



As far as mounting they are held in place by 4 "J" hooks that hook under the bed rail... takes a couple minutes to install or remove... they're nice and they come in powder coat black too!

I picked up this Delta for 100. 00, was only used 6 month. I like the low profile for use with a 5er.

Thanks for the quick replys guys... the Weatherguard sounds like the ticket.

I don't think I want the over the rail type of box, I know that it gives you clearance under the box to slide things all the way forward in the bed but I don't intend to have the box in my truck unless I am on a trip... and I ain't gonna be hauling plywood or sheetrock while I am on vacation



Hey Bob... I don't remember whether or not you quoted me a price on the blue air horn? You said something about an exchange but didn't include a price if my feeble memory serves me.

I've had good luck with Delta Tool Boxes. YOu can get them at Lowes (here at least). Hope this helps.

I use the TracRac system. It allows you to slide your tool box around and lock it in place anywhere on the bed. There are also some other items like adjustable tiedowns and an adjustable gate to contain groceries etc. A bit of an investment just for camping, but very useful. You have to make sure you get a box that fits between the narrow part of the bed by the tailgate so you can slide the box right out when your not using it. I used a box I already had and it's about 1/2 " too wide

Another vote for Weatherguard. I had a good Delta once, but let it go with a previous truck. I bought another Delta, and the bottom broke out in less than two weeks. Cheesy new low-cost design with skip welds along the bottom edge so they could use smooth aluminum on the bottom. The heaviest thing I had in there was a spare Chevy starter for my Jeep. I returned it and bought the Weatherguard. Now this is a well built box! No comparison. Bigger and deeper too. The j-bolt mounting is tougher for thieves to mess with.

I checked out the Knaack Weatherguard boxes on the internet, they only show a mounting option of bolting the box to the bed?? I didn't see the "J" hook method of mounting the box!

The boxes look like what I am looking for and there is a retailer about 5 miles from me, just don't want to permanently mount the box!
