I'm going to replace the wheels on my 04, 3500 4 X 4 and wanted some input.

Some manufacturer's websites say to only use 4 on the dually trucks and not to dual the aluminum wheels.

Has that been the case for all you hot-rodders out there?

I was really looking forward to getting rid of all the steel wheels and going for the chrome.

Right now, I'm looking at American Racing or American Eagle 17" rims to mount my Pirelli's on,...

Never seen inner aluminum wheels on a dually pickup. My guess is because that the wheels are hub piloted (centered by the wheel hub) and not enough area for both rims to touch the hub correctly. Aluminum wheels are quite a bit thicker.

Make sure to use a poly spacer between the steel and aluminum wheels so they don't corrode together. Will most likely need longer wheel studs as well.

I thought about aluminum wheels after my new paint job, but spent $550 on new Mopar simulators instead. Flat tires are a pain and so is rotating. Make sure to carry an extra set of lugnuts at all times.

I don't know if this applies to our trucks, but on over the road trucks, the manufacture of the drive axles say never dual dissimilar metal wheels. The aluminum will expand more than steel as the tire and brakes heats up the wheels causing the aluminum wheel to carrying more of the load making the hub carry the load where is not designed to. The nuts tend to come loose as well.
