I was driving home today and caught my self checking out my rig in those big windows downtown, and I'm sure that I had to have a cheesy grin on my face. Not unlike the one I get when a big puff of black smoke flows over the car behind me. Ah life is good. Just curious if any of ya' have caught yourselves doin' the same ?

How about rolling the window down whenever you're in town so you can enjoy listening to the straight pipe echo off other cars? My wife was following me home tonite. She was about a quarter mile back and I hammered it after I took the cutoff to our house (she didn't see me do this). When we got home, she was laughing her but off. Seems the tell tale cloud of black smoke was still covering the road when she took the turn off #ad

How about taking a deep breath while walking by a running Cummins? Kind of gives you that light headed floating feeling where you can't feel any fingers or toes...

I also look at the rig goin down the road. I am especially looking if I have a trailer behind me. Just amazes me that it will hold up so much and just barely squat. I even look at the tires just rollin down the road. I must be really sick.

Being a Locomotive engineer, i get off one diesel, and get right in another. Can never have too much diesel exhaust. Aside from hearing my Cummins echo off parked cars, i always rev up the locomotives going through tunnels and under bridges to hear that beautiful sound.

The only thing more fun is driving a 2 cycle Detroit w/Jake brake. You can rattle second story windows on narrow streets. Also sounded good going under the downtown post office in Chicago! You had to look for entertainment, because it took a long time to get anywhere! Most of you don't know how easy you have it - think about grossing 73,280 lbs. with a 238 Hp. , 6-71 Detroit. I think our pickups have more than that stock, especially since torque was an unknown term when they engineered the 2 cycle Detroits!

Cheers! Ray

Ray,

Someone on these forums remarked that Detroit 6/71s just turned fuel into noise. I had a fish boat with a screaming jimmy in it. After three days running with the throttle against the stop I was ready to jump overboard.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with this sort of downtown vanity affliction.

I love to do it just before it gets dark so that I can see all the beautiful yellow and red lights on my truck and of course my Elvis snarl in the windows. #ad

Who would've thought back in the 60's when the Hot-rods were rattling the downtown windows that 30+ years later, those same windows would be rattled by Cummins powered Hot-Rods!

The driver of the hot rod 30 years ago and the driver of the hot rod Cummins is one and the same!!!!

Anytime I'm driving in front of large windows, I flip on the parking lamps so the cab lights are illuminated #ad

Speaking of looking at your rig, how many of you can walk away after parking your rig WITHOUT looking back at least once?? Never done it once in a year, there is this tremendous polar magnetism that forces my head to face towards the truck until I get far enough away from it. The cleaner the truck, the stronger the attraction #ad

And how often do you put a puff of black smoke out for the BMW driver to see as you leave the stop sign? And then when you pull onto the 4 lane and he immediately jumps into the left lane, put the hammer down! At 75, having not been able to make it around, he pulled back in behind me and I smiled. I couldn't afford a go fast car as a kid, so guess I'll have to do w/my Cummins.

Joe, The other quote I loved about the old Detroits, "If you hung a picture of a Detroit on the wall, you'd have oil running down the wall under it!"

As for the BMW: Only when the driver's window is down. This is the only time I miss my old 6. 2, it had dual pipes and smoked oil like nobody's business.

HEHE..... I'm only 18, and everytime I'm in the thing I have to clean it out and **** everyone off that's following me. Everytime I come into town the windows go down just so I can listen to her scream. Whether I'm back home in the good ol country or up here at college runnin around the city I make sure everyone notices "The Blackdog". Don't ya just love it?. Even the town cops around home love it when I come into town just so they can see the town fill up with smoke. Life is great when you gotta Cummins that just makes you smile everytime you look at it. Take Care!
