Hot Shot Drivers Wanted

Would anybody buy a unit with this statement....

Ok so my dads 06 is having problems with the trailer wiring. I knew exactly what was wrong since I worked at the dealership and see so many trucks with the same problem. We are gonna re-wire the whole boat trailer just to make sure we weren't the ones that caused the problems in the first place. What I have found on the trailer is that between the tail lights and turn signal wires they have continuity. Is this suppose to happen? I would think that the turn signals and the tail lamps would be on two different circuits. But now that I think of it, would it have continuity since they share the same ground (through the trailer).

What it comes down to, on the 06's and newer the computer is looking for either a ground or it even looks for a short to power so if there is power going down a wire that it shouldn't, it will shut the power off to the trailer.

If somebody could please check to see if their trailer has continuity between the turn signal and tail lamp wires.

Thanks

Why not pull the bulbs and check for a short to ground?? You could have corrosion at the bulb also.

I don't have a trailer with normal lights to check (LEDs)...

I talked to a buddy that I worked with, and he said the bulbs have a common so there will be continuity between them so there will be a little feedback on the other wires but it won't be noticed by the computer

mopartec is correct the 06 is wired different than other modles you must have the trailer towing package installed and you should fuse each lead except the ground. the pcm on 06 does not monitor the load on trailer plug like most people think it does not care if the bulb is burnt out , or L. E. D. or ok. however there is one fuse that feeds the pmc if you short one of the wires you can damage the pcm or have to have it reset by the dealer. take the bulbs out and then check each wire the only one that should have continuity to ground should be the brake, if you have a brake away box on the trailer it contains a 12v battery that charges through pin 7 and you need to stay off of it with the ohm meter also if it has that box you need to check the battery once a year at least

The dual filament bulbs have only 1 ground wire which is common to both filaments. If you are getting crossfeed between the functions then you have a poor or missing ground to that bulb. With a good ground there will be NO cross feed.

that is correct for power but he is checking for shorts with an ohm meter ,draw a pix of a bulb and you will see the two filaments are in series with a center tap that is grounded i built a test box out of junk parts that has saved hundreds of hours trouble shooting it only took 2 hours to build if you bought every thing new it should still cost less than $75 i can try to draw it out and put it on a pdf file. i can fax it easy if you wish to make one
