Am I Just Being Paranoid?

My 2004 just broke 4000 miles and it seems as if my valve clatter is getting noisier. As this is my first diesel I really don't know whether this is normal or not. I get the clatter as I first take off and then again as I crest 2000 RPM. Just sounds as if something is a tad loose. Anyone else experience this in their 04? My buddy just bought a 600 and his valvetrain clatter is nonexistent. Matter of fact his motor is quiet as a church mouse. Looking for some advice from all experienced diesel owners?

Mine does it also. Seems to be at different temperatures. I have almost 10K and nothing has gotten louder.

• Fueling up at a different station

• Fuel additive such as Stanadyne

My developed a loud knock. Other TDR members suggested a loose injector. Service will be looking at it tomorrow.



Loud knock disappears after about 1200 RPM and then becomes a rattle.

mine does it to started about 600 miles, has got a little more frequent and louder. hope its nothing major.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried different fuel, but no change. I have a service appointment tomorrow morning so I'll see what the dealer has to say.

Dealer gave it a check over and found everything to be within spec. Said the noise I am hearing is normal and not to worry. The Tech seemed pretty knowledgeable... ... ... of course this is my first diesel and so I wouldn't know if he was blowing smoke or not. At the very least I got the check up documented on a service record as proof that I had it looked at should something blow apart down the road.
