Am I too Hot?

I started towing my 20 ft Lund Alaskan behind a 26 ft Pilgrim Fifth Wheel that I purchased earlier this year. I noticed I was running just a bit over 190 degrees on my return from Ontario this past week while driving 65 mph. The temperature needle didn't get past the "0" of the 190 but it was there consistently enough to concern me. Should I be concerned?

I don't know what generation your truck is but that shouldn't hurt anything as long as it's steady and doesn't climb up to the red area on your gauge. My '96 used to go up to about 200 degrees on long climbs towing a fifth wheel. I have not towed any big grades with my new truck yet but if it does the same I won't be concerned.

I thought my profile would show that but obviously it didn't: I have a 2001 D3500 with an automatic, just over 50,000 miles. No modifications other than a fuel pressure gauge to keep an eye on the lift pump.

wcoomes - - You might check your radiator and give it a cleaning,if the oil trap bottle is still in use.

I had the same problem with my CTD 2500, and after replacing the thermostat and new antifreeze, the problem went away. I replaced it with the same degree thermostat, truck runs a lot cooler now.

Ever since new my truck has run 1 needle width under the 190 mark running empty and 1 needle width over the 190 mark when towing.

in the heat of the day i run 190 when towing and 180 empty.
