I get a lot of noise on AM radio . It seems to come and go with bumps in the road and even smacking the top of the dash some times .I have had this radio out many times ,even ran a ground wire direct to the battery but its still there .Now im wondering if the alternator is causing it and if running a positive wire off the battery to the radio would help .Im guessing the positive wire in the harness might be running along the alternator wire and picking up noise .Any thoughts or ideas ? They still broadcast on the AM band?

Could be electrical noise, could be corrosion in the antennae connection, or frayed antennae cable.

You should be able to get a noise filter for the power lead at any car audio shop.
