I've never owned a diesel before. Always thought they'd be problematic. In 2000 I almost purchased a CDT, but the extra $4500 scared me (OK, the loud noise was a factor too). I opted for a new Dodge V10 instead, since it was only $700 more than the 360 V8 and very powerful.
When fuel went up over $2/gal the first time, I spent $80 or more on every fill, and my gas mileage was attrocious... about 8. 5 mpg. That meant I spent $150 - $200 per week on fuel. When the '03 Dodges came out I decided I should make amends and trade up to the Diesel. They were now a lot quieter too.
I've always been a Dodge man, but I must say this is by far the nicest truck I have ever owned. Mileage? Easily over 20 mpg, and that's not just on the freeway; I've had it over 24 mpg out on the stretch. Now by discovering the TDR network, I'm even happier. I've solved a couple of mysteries through the forum already that saved me no doubt more than the subscription price.
I'll never buy another gasoline engine truck.
