Here I am

Amber alert ticker information - provide input here please

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Downsize Pics?

Several images not working for me.

This is not about helping children. Granted, I am for helping kids and hope there is never another kid who is raped or kidnapped. It is just wrong.

However, I don't care to see amber alerts on TDR site. This is a diesel site, not Fox News. If you don't want to be with a group of rationalists, sorry to see you go... . Atleast have a choice to turn it off. If there is an amber alert, i will hear it locally, i dont need to be bothered with it on TDR.

Lets all remember that this thread is to garner input from members regarding what is an emotional issue. Maybe there is a simple compromise rather than black and white?I had suggested earlier that if the Amber alert was only on the home page where most of us pass briefly it could satisfy everybody concerned.

I can see why TDR heavily considered trying this now. Perhaps we could simply try it out for the rest of the test period per the info described above and then see how it goes?

One of the reasons I like the TDR is that they listen to us and this truly is a loosely knit bunch of friends and family where individual input is valued.

Lets try it out give our opinion and let the Robin and Steve make the final call w/o debate.

Well Stated Greg. Although I may not understand or agree with everyone's opinion, I still respect them and the right for all of us to have one. I also appreciate the TDR being gracious in letting us share our thoughts and feelings for consideration.

No amber alert ticker

I come to TDR for trucks. TDR is my happy place. Please remove the banner.

I appreciate the good intention and I feel when others suffer. But the ticker is not appropriate for this site. The yellow, travelling, top-center, in your face bad news banner is not what I come to TDR for. The news media business today is all about sensationalizing the bad stuff. The constant parade of crime, tragedy and gore serves to corrupt and desensitize the nation's morals.

Do you want to know how much the TDR membership is interested in the amber alert? Remove the banner and add a link to link to it. Monitor the the traffic and comments. I suspect that if people want news or just need to feed their CNN jones, they'll go to those kinds of sites, not TDR.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion - and opinions are like _ and everyone has their own. Here is mine: Steve, of all the great things you have done for this Website this one is "the" absolute best! With all the members we have in different states we could surely help some poor sole whom has a missing child by taking a few moments away from our "happy places" in our comfortable lives to look into it. It pleases me to be part of an organization whom is mindful enough to consider such a service to our nation and families whom may have a missing child. Finally, if the bad news banner and CNN get to you, like people say about the Howard Stern radio show, "don't look or listen, tune it out or turn it off and quit your moaning".

My buck-three-eighty-two

Thanks Steve-Great idea/work,

Joe Mc

Thank you all for your candid input on the question of publishing the Amber Alert tickler throughout the Turbo Diesel Register's website. Because we are a community of individuals united by a common interest, we feel a strong commitment to each other and strive to support each other's needs. That was our goal with the Amber Alert tickler.

Just days into our test period, we have received a number of posts - both pro and con - on this issue; and we have received a number of Private Messages - again both pro and con. We have received enough so that we do not need to wait thirty days to determine the interest in continuing this initiative. I have asked Steve to move the Amber Alert tickler to the TDR Home Page. I encourage you to bookmark the TDR Home Page so that upon logging on, you can see if there is an active alert in your area. And as you can see, we have removed it from the TDR Discussion Forums. We feel this adequately and appropriately addresses both sides to this somewhat controversial issue. Please note that you can download a desktop tickler at: http://codeamber.org/desktop.html .

An unexpected positive that has come from this is that it has forced us to spend time discussing how we should address requests for community service projects as they arrive. We understand and are committed to providing support - as appropriate - to established organizations working on behalf of large segments of our population. We are a diverse group of individuals spread out over many countries and all fifty States. So, our limited resources can be best used in the support of those organizations and initiatives that have the greatest chance of affecting the greatest number of TDR members.

I trust this is a policy you can support.

Robin
