Ambient air temperature?

Do you guys notice your egt's settle down a bit when its cooler outside? I noticed as of late that my egt's can't break 1200 degrees with my Smarty of #7. During the summer I could touch 1450 degrees under a hard roll.

Yes, I notice this quite a bit. I think it makes sence: cooler air in, cooler air out. On one of the hills I climb between work and home my EGTs will get just above 800 when it is higher than 75 ambient; but if it is below 75, I can usually keep it under 800.

As that colder air goes through the engine the performance should improve as the colder air is more dense...

We don't use winter fronts on our trucks for that reason... we want that cold air cooling the inner cooler...
