OK, DC dropped Dana so AA (American Axle) is the supplier for

the new G3 axles. AA also makes the axles for the GM 2500HD

and 3500HD. The GM trucks have a limited slip made by Eaton.

I have owned a couple of GM vehicles with this diff (Eaton

Positive Locking differential). It is RPO G80 on a GM.

Basically I am trying to find out if Dodge is using the same

differential in the new trucks or just a plain old clutch type

limited slip.

The neat thing about the Eaton? It is a true locking diff.

You can have one rear tire completely off the ground and

still get 100% of the power to the tire that is on the ground.

The limited slip DC offers in the Dana axles is a clutch type

and will only hold a certain amount of torque before slipping

and therefore you can get stuck, spinning one wheel even

though it is a posi/limited slip.

Anybody know what is in the new G3 rear alxe?

*EDIT added*

I just found the AAM website and they show some different differential

units. I'm hoping the new Ram's have the TrakRite LK diff.

I read somewhere that the DC axles made by AA don't have clutches and don't need a limited slip additive. It uses a "helical gear design", whatever that means according to the press release.

According to a email from AA Dodge is using the TracRite GT. Couldnt tell me the tourque bias but they run from 1. 5 to 2. 5 if my memory serves me right
