U. S. Passports in France

At a French airport... A group of American retired teachers recently went to France on a tour. Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, was part of the tour group.

At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry-on.

"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs

officer asked sarcastically.

Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.

"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready. "

The American said, "The

last time I was here, I didn't have to show it. "

"Impossible!" barked the officer "Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France "

The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained. "Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in '44 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find any Frenchmen to show it to. "

No offense to the French TDR contingent. I got that in an e-mail and thought it was funny.

reminds me of the U. S. Airliner trying to find its way around Frankfurt airport. When asked by the tower if they have ever been here before the pilot responded "Yes, Once in '44 it was a non stop flight".

My friends and I went to Europe fore a month this summer. The plan was to stay in France for a week. We decided we would first go to Paris. The city is very cool and the museums are awesome. The people on the other hand are the rudest most awful group of people I have ever encountered. We were not allowed to use the bathrooms in restaurants after buying $20 meals. We were cussed at for no reason, and un like any of the other 7 countries we went to the people were unhelpful. Even when you are trying to give them money. France is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever been to, but if you are going to go don’t expect to be liked. We left 20 hrs after arrival.

I talked to many other travelers most of whom where non-American, and they all had a similar experience.

Warning, this is a non PC reply. :D

Maybe if we started treating "furners" the way the toads do, we might not have the troubles we have now. :-laf

I have heard lots of stories about the french being rude. But then, from what I have heard/read, we (as AMERICAN'S) are seen as a bunch of loud laughing bozo's. I would rather be laughing loud than being rude and smug.

Heck, we have the London Bridge. Lets go get the Eiffel Tower. After bailing the french out of TWO world wars, they owe us something more than just Lady Liberty. :-laf

A Frenchman, an Englishman, and a TDR member are captured by a fierce tribe. The chief approaches them and says, "The bad news is that now that we've caught you, we're going to kill you and then use your skins to build a canoe. The good news is that you get to choose how you die. "

The Frenchman says, "I take ze poison. " The chief gives him some poison, the Frenchman says, "Vive la France!" and drinks it down.

The Englishman says, "A pistol for me, please. " The chief gives him a pistol, he points it at his head, says, "God save the queen!" and blows his brains out.

The TDR member says, "Gimme a fork. " The chief is puzzled, but he shrugs and gives him a fork. The guy takes the fork and starts jabbing himself all over-the stomach, the sides, the chest, everywhere. There's blood gushing out all over, it's horrible. The chief is appalled, and screams, "What are you doing???" The New Yorker looks at the chief and laughs, "So much for your canoe!"
