I'm trying to find out how much gear lube CTD owners with Mag-Hytec differential covers are running in their differentials. Please post if you have ever had any leaking seal problems, i. e. pinion seal, wheel bearings, etc. TIA

I filled mine with Royal Purple Synthetic 75-140. I have not added any frction modifier and have no chatter. Cant wait till they make one for the front :) .

I emailed Mag-Hytec concerning the front cover. We have all been waiting patiently for this to come out. Roy @ Mag-Hytec via Email stated that we should see this in late fall. :D I know we have heard this before but I think if we wait patiently, It will come ( thank god ;) )

I have just ordered the rear cover myself and I'm planning on using Amsoil 75w-90.

John, your running the 3500 as I am so we both have Dana 80's.

when I had mine serviced and the Mag-Hytech cover put on we put 7 1/2 quarts in which put it in the middle of the fill zone. I think there is some difference as to how we all look at the dip stick but if you get 7 or a little more in there you will be on time..... Pete

My Dana 70 took 5 1/2. The install took a while as I had to fill factory stampings ( on the diff housing ) as per the instructions that came with the cover. 3000 mi, no leaks. :)

My cover didn't mate to the new housing and is leaking at the bottom. I ordered some Amsoil synthetic and as soon as I get it I will be taking the cover off and checking for stamps. I may need a new O-ring, but I seriously doubt it. I loosened the cover up last night and re-tightened it, still leaking, but I think it slowed down some. If push comes to shove I'll use the orange RTV. At least I can fix this problem. When it comes to warranty work, they never come out of the repair exactly like they went in. :(

Nope, fill!

Some of the stampings are so deep, the o-ring will leak. I bought mine used and the previous owner didn't include THAT SHEET in the instructions!

I called Roy (nice, helpful guy) and he told me about it. He said the techs at a garage will (after filing the burrs off) use silicone to fill them up but most DIY types use epoxy so it only has to be done once. That's what I did. I then made sure the whole surface was dead flat and smooth. No leaking!

You may want to specify Dana 70s and Dana 80s. I think stock Dana 70s hold 7. 5 pints and Dana 80s hold about 10. 1 pints.

Filling my Dana 80 on level ground to the top of the dip stick took 14 pints.

I put black silicone on my Maghytec as though it were a factory pan. The reason is that I dont want water to seep between the Maghytec cover and the iron Dana 80 and cause rust OUTSIDE the o-ring. I have seen this happen before on other o-ring equipped covers. The silicone will seal the joint against water intrusion. This was not necessary because the o-ring would allow oil to leak out but just to keep water out. BTW, I used 7 quarts of Mobil 1.

I coated both surface with anitsieze. I'll report on it's effictiveness when I install my LSD.
