Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Amperage draw for the grid heater

Does Any one know what the normal amperage draw is for the intake grid heater is on a 2000 truck?

190 amps at 12 volts.

I believe Tim was talking about the Grid Heaters which are 12v, not the water heater that fits in the block.

That sounds like the block heater, as the grid heater is 12V not 110V.



For 3rd gens the block heater is 6. 5 amps at 110v, or 715 watts. (I think the 2nd gen is the same, not sure on 1st).



The grid heater is 2 95 amp circuits, which at 12v is 2280 watts.

Thanks for the info guys. I bought new batteries at Sears, had them installed and they told me I had a short that was drawing 200 amps when first tunring on the key. Now I know why I don't like those people touching my truck.

Just put an amprobe on mine last week. Each heater was drawing about 100 amps.
