Amsoil 15-40 or 5-30?

I have read on here that the amsoil series 3000 HDD 5-30 has greater wear protection than their 15-40. But we are supposed to be running 15-40... ..... I am not by any means an oil expert just your average joy blow... . Isn't the amsoil 5-30 a thinner oil? If it is alright to run their 5-30 i would rather do that if it provides better protection... ... .

Thanks for the reply, and I no it is just your opinion... ... . but why do you suggest the 15-40, and you are running the series 3000 HDD 5-30?

Jason,

I ran the Amsoil 15W-40 for the first 105,000 miles on my '94, then I went with the HDD series 3000 5W-30 oil. NOw have over 135,000 on it. Both are excellent oils!

5W-30

You can pick either one of those oils and not go wrong. Amsoil has an engine flush that cleans and disolves some of the slug build-up that happen with petroleum products. If you have a lot of miles I'd suggest using it, otherwise you'll have to change your filter earlier than required. Both oils have an additive that helps dissolve the sludge build-up, but it's not as concentrated as the engine flush. I went with the 5W-30 and a By-Pass filter, and at 7,000 miles I had to change filters, the oil was still good to go just topped it off. Using Amsoil oil analysis program is also a good way to have your oil checked for continued use. :)
