I just spoke to an AMSOIL rep. He recommended the 75-140 for my trucks rear end. Plus one bottle of the limited slip additive. I have an 04. 5 3. 73 Manual trans. 4x2. I had the rear rebuilt at 2200 miles due to a whine. Now I have a smaller whine at 70 MPH... AMSOIL was recommended to probably fix this noise... just wanted a few more opinions before I placed the order. Thanks!

Dodge recommends 75W90 for the 3rd gen axles, and I understand that the limited slip additive is not required.

75W-140 and the limited slip additive were the norm for the Dana 80's on the 2nd gens.

75W90 as stated is reconmended. There are no clutches in the AA anti-spin therefore you do not need an additive. Gotta love oil "experts" who reconmend things and are wrong.

Just returned from the dealer. My Diff fluid looks fine he said after being broken in. They said lots of people are hearing the noise I describe and that it is normal. Chrysler is looking at trying to find a way so that the cab is insulated so consumers can't hear the " Normal " noise and become alarmed...

Yup, you are dealing with a large truck axle now, and it will whine to some degree. My dad, old army guy, said it reminds him of the duece and a half or five tons, he used to drive and ride in. He thinks it's kind of comforting. Mine is not that loud and has decreased some, since new. I now have 13k on it. Just did the first change on the oil and used Amsoil 75-W90 in it, no additive, no change in noise level.

I have no wines in my 04 from the 11. 5 Antispin. I didn't have any at 20 miles and don't have any at 5500. Either that or I can't hear it over the drone, any way no complaints. I don't agree that any oil of any chemical makeup or viscosity can mask a whine, but I could be wrong. What is up with the additive. If you are seriously pulling a lot of weight I don't think that the 140 would be a bad idea. I ran 85-140 Mobile Synthetic in my 02 and it was only as thick as the 90 that came out in fact it seemed thinner. I'm no expert though.

I ran the 75-140 in my Dana 80 and it was great,in fact I hast quite a lot left,I was hoping to use in in this truck. .

The additive is a friction modifier for the clutchs in the Dana limited slip differentials. The AA anti-spin uses gears instead of clutches and does not need it.
