I ordered an Amsoil EaA 106 air filter for my 97 12 valve and it came with a piece of 1/2" foam firmly glued to the bottom of the filter, the foam covers the bottom of the filter completely. Does anybody know if the foam is part of the filter or just packing to protect the filter. This filter is supposed to be the new nanofiber technology and not a foam filter that you oil. You wouldn't think they would glue packing material to a new filter, also, no instructions or pictures came with the filter.

The foam stops the stick and stones (per se) that make it into the intake. You'll notice that the stock filters nowadays have the same thing. Its just one more layer in the filter. Let us know how you like it!

I've been running one for awhile now and it seems to be doing the job great. I guess when cleaning time comes we'll have to remove foam, clean, then reattach with a few drops of glue. P. S. I got the Smarty loaner today, thanks! Dave

Pulled my KN filter off for the amsoil filter.

Felt like I lost a little power pre turbo boost. That foam got dirty quick also.

Put in a BHAF. Have all the power of my KN. And no worry about any dirt getting by the stock airbox/filter assembly :D
