One last time, FRANTZ FILTER

When I do my next oil change I'm going to install an Amsoil dual by-pass. I would like to use a Fleetguard filter instead of the Amsoil full flow. I understand that if I change the full flow adapter to one like the by-pass filter uses I can do this. My question is how do I remove the adapter and then install the new one without messing up the threads the filter will screw on to?

When I had the amsoil kit, the adapter wasn't in the housing very tight, it would loosen up by hand, if that doesn't work, try wrapping a rag around the adapter and using minimal pressure with a set of channels locks should do it.

Tried that but it didn't work. Seems these adapters are in there nice and tight. I've sent off a message to Amsoil tech so I'll see what they have to say.

This is the reply I got from Amsoil:

There are no adapters for the filter mount assembly on any of the By-Pass systems. The only filters that are compatable with a specific system are the filters on the mounting kit instructions.

Thank you, AMSOIL Technical Services

So much for help from them.

Why would you want to use a lesser filter on your truck?

I have an old style filter head if you want it. WIth the fittings I have, you should be able to use whatever you want.

Hmmm. . . didn't realize a Fleetguard was substandard to an Amsoil filter. But as they say - I am my own warranty station. :)

Instead of the rag and channel lock method, which will work, a strap wrench will not mar the threads.

I must have one that is welded in place as I've tried both methods and neither works. Looks like I may be using the Amsoil filters after all. I'll keep trying.

I use Wix filters on the full flow side of my Amsoil dual bypass system and the threads are the same as Ford filter PH8A. I had the parts guy look up the filter for a heavy duty truck as its a longer filter than a standard filter. I am sure the fleetgaurd will cross reference their filters to the Fram PH8A #. I use the Amsoil bypass filter due to its extra fine filtering capability.
