I was just reading in the Aug 1 edition of Amsoil's DirectLine that Amsoil is now "working on significant upgrades to the BMK-15 and BMK-16 systems". Any other dealers out there know what the upgrades will be for the BMK-15 used in our RAMS?

Call the guy that gave us the group purchase plan at 1-800-376-9797 he will know and give you a good honest and straight answer!!

I'm not sure if this is the significant upgrade that Amsoil was referring to however, as I just purchased a BMK-15 (dual bypass system) and it was shipped factory direct to me (as the Distributor was out of stock on this), I noticed the new bypass mount is made of billet, (black anodized) aluminum. This is a very trick piece that is 100% machined, even the Amsoil name and flow direction arrows are engraved using an end mill. Trick, very trick! #ad
The older bypass mounts were cast aluminum and not nearly as stout looking.

Can't wait to get that system installed!

John,
If word on the street says they are changing things, I don't think what you mentioned is it. I've had the newer Billet mount for well over a year. I'll do a little research at AMSOIL... but I'm not aware of a change.
See what you guys can find out.

Just got off the phone with Technical Services at AMSOIL. The changes that were mentioned are still in the engineering phase. That means it could be quite some time before any change is made -- if any. They are evaluating changing the current adapter plate (not mounting plate). It is currently aluminum and they are looking for ways to improve it. I asked how long -- they said "don't wait" if you are wanting to buy one. It could be quite awhile. Nothing is for sure at this point. They aren't having any problems with the current one, they are just constantly looking for ways to make their products better.

MGM, when I talked to an Amsoil tech. the other day I suggested they replace the present cast aluminum bypass ADAPTOR with a billet aluminum (black anodized, of course) version to compliment the trick bypass billet mount which is currently utilized (to mount both filters). He responded by saying that they were working on something although, he also divulged that it may be a long time (if ever) before anything would (might) be released.

My prediction is that something cool will be released JUST AFTER I install my dual bypass mounting system. Hell, isn't that the way it always works? #ad

John,
You know it! I think that is the most suggested item from the TDR members! Cost is holding it up, I beleive.
Another member just put braided stainless line on his, about $120! Whats next? Chrome filters?!!

Gene

Yep, put the ss lines on. Probably didn't need em but they look nice. That's not as much as it sounds, elbows cost $15 each and they DON'T come with the kit!

Have a pretty slick battery mount. $80 incl shipping. I'm having 10 made up, available sept 18th.

Hey Ted;

Great job on that bracket! I've been making one for a few years now, but yours looks a whole lot nicer. I'll let my future customers in on this and I'll see if I can sell a few for you.

Thanks Rudy

Hey Ted, your dual bypass mount turned out really well! Nice work! #ad
I just wish I could utilize your mounting system, but I don't have the room with my Air Bulldog replacement, combination air box base/induction link. #ad

I'm going to have to reinvent the wheel, mounting mine off the frame crossmember.

Q. : What type and size of braided AN hose did you use, neoprene or Teflon core? -8 AN? Could you tell me about the ends you used... brand, material (i. e. , steel etc. )?

Thanks in advance, John
(please e-mail me if you prefer)

Ted,
the mounting bracket looks slick, how sturdy is it? Can you tighten and loosen the filters without racking the bracket and risk damaging the battery? How is it fastened down, just using the j-hooks from the battery hold down to the battery tray?

Thanks Rudy! (mr freeze)

John, I think they're aeroquip, or something like that. They're teflon core. Whatever size matches to the amsoil fittings - . 49 or something (I don't think there is much choice in size)

1tuff, it's very sturdy.
Yes, no "racking" the bracket (although I only tighten my filters by hand - no leaks!).
And yes, only use the j-hooks, very simple.

MGM and John

Sorry for the late response. I've been off line for several weeks. Both computers crashed--virus I think.
This significant upgrade to AMSOIL's by-pass kit is probably the cast adapter that mounts in place of the stock oil filter. This is the only part left in this kit that is of poor quality and design.
For at least 2 years I have been making and using a billet aluminum adapter on the by-pass units that I have installed due to the difficulty of installation and the leakage of the supplied cast adapter.
I have also been selling them to many Dodge Cummins owners who are installing the dual by-pass unit themselves.
A picture of the adapter is available--
if I can figure out how to email it.
If you are interested in seeing the picture, contact me.
