Looking for oil change interval suggestions. Just went Amsoil in engine. Getting mixed signals from everyone as to change interval. Supplier tells me to go 10K, change filter and go 10K more... seems like alot.

From what I have been reading. It is the best to have your oil tested. This is the truest way to determine if it is failing or not. I have seen where some people have been going 20K or more for miles but only changing the Oil Filter every 7K - 10K and replacing only 1 quart of oil. I have not switched to Amsoil for oil yet but have it in the rear end. Some day... some time I will. The bypass is the way to go. Makes it that much cleaner and last that much longer before changing.

Nuttymopar, This is true with the by-pass filter, my 1994 cummins had 11,700/8 months on the oil with remarks from oil analysis of "suitable for continued use". The lab will let you know when to change filters and when to change oil. The by-pass filter will filter the oil down to less than than 1 micron. My 94 was totaled in a head-on collision in Oct. I now have a 1995 with the by-pass system from my 94. I have put 8K on this oil (15w40 heavy duty diesel and marine oil) and will pull a sample at 12K. Hope this helps.

Just got my last oil analysis back 2 weeks ago. Says oil is fine for continued use. I change the filter and add quart of oil every 5K miles. My latest sample was pulled at 21K miles. I had been using AMSOIL oil filters and K&N air filter. I'm gonna go for one more sample at about 25K miles and change it all out then.

Hey guys, I am new on the site but not new to Amsoil and their system. I ran Castrol syntec for the first 60k then went to the bypass system and Amsoil. I started changing the bypass filters at 10k and then both at another 10k. Then I went up to 20k. I changed all the oil at 50K. My samples said I could continue, but I figured I got my $ worth on 50k. I have got 40k on the second change and will send a sample and change the filters. I use the marine 15w-40. I am sold on the system. I have 150k of stop and go in town driving on my service truck(very hard on a desiel). I had to have my transmission overhauled at 125k because the seperator plate was worn thru in 3 places by the steel balls because of shiffting!I would not use any other oil but Amsoil.

There are 2 types, the by-pass oil filter (which tapes into the oil system at the oil sending unit) and the dual by-pass oil filter. I use the dual by-pass oil filter. It comes with all the hardware needed to install on the Cummins including the SDF filter and the by-pass filter. Your oil filter is removed and replaced with the dual by-pass kit. This kit allows you to mount your filters in an area that is easy to get to and contains both filters side by side. The Amsoil by-pass filter removes particles as small as 1/10 of a micron, virtually eliminating engine wear. If you need more info, email me.
