What is the best BHAF and setup?

Had my transmission DTT'ed at 13000 miles, at 14000 miles I replaced fluid with Amsoil. I'm now at about 30000 miles (16000 since fluid change). I play around a little and do very little towing. At what interval should I change the fluid?

wow almost identical miles

now is the time for a change, I am switching my amsoil universal at almost the exact mileage.

30k is the limit

I am at 38K

Amsoil recommends 3 times longer than "normal". I had this oil in my last CTD with Automatic, and at 60,000 miles had the oil analyized. The analysis came back stateing the oil was "suitable for continuous use". Viscosity of the oil showed nearly the same as "new" ATF.

I would change it every 60K miles just to give you something to do and make you feel good about the transmission maintenance. If you would need to change the Amsoil synthetic every 30K miles you might as well use the DC stuff and change it every 30K miles.

Can't hurt and if it makes you feel better what's an extra $100 if you have an expensive custom trans. I know a guy that is a consultant in the industry and knows your builder (thinks he is one of the best) but his opinion is that you can go 100K miles with synthetic as long as the fluid does not get burnt or contaminated. I run synthetic in my wifes LC and change it every 60K miles. ;)

I think most people overlook the the filter. Yes the synthetics will lower friction and they do not loose there properties over time like conventional iols do. But the filter still needs to be replaced at it's normal interval. Automatics where everytime you use them, now the synthetics help reduce wear, but it still occuries. This were is aluminum shavings, clutch plate fiber wear, metal wear (shavings), and impurities (dirt). If you want to keep the oil fine, just drain (you should have a MAG-HYTEC pan, much easier and more controlled), the oil into a clean container. Use another clean container, and poor the oil into it, while straining the oil for any contaminits (you can use panty hose and cheese cloth). Change the filter, and re-install the oil. Of coarse if it looks or smells burnt, replace with new. I have noticed much less wear with AMSOIL'S atf, but the filter still needs to be replaced.
