5th Wheel Tailgates - What are you using?

Can the Cummins E-brake be used w/ 4" exhaust?

Have any of you used the AmsOil diesel fuel additive? They claim it increases power and fuel mileage, decreases white smoke @ cold engine startup, cleans injectors, and generally improves your love life.

I tried a can, and it did definitely reduce the white smoke, (okay, mine's actually blue, but whatever,) but I didn't notice that much difference in power or mileage.

Any other experiences out there?

I put my first can it this week. I haven't noticed anything yet, but didn't expect to see a power increase.

Probably need to run a few tanks fulls to see if it helps mileage or not.

dnelson,

I'm assuming your reference to the AMSOIL additive is the Diesel Fuel modifier rather than the Cetane Boost Additive.
Either way, I've used both, in my tractor as well as the Cummins. Noticing that you have a 99', I'm glad to see that you noticed very little. IMO, The Fuel modifier only proves beneficial in winter months. Secondly, and more importantly, its doubtful you will see a mileage or HP increase in an engine as new as yours. The effects do however become more significant in an older Diesel with dirty injectors. My father's Kubota Diesel Tractor... for example made a noticable improvement in responsiveness and running smoother. We didn't check for a decrease in fuel consumption... but I guess its possible. From AMSOIL's standpoint, Their claim of increased hp/mileage, even if a 1hp increase is realized, they aren't lying from a marketing standpoint.
Either way, the improvement seen in his tractor was worth the cost of a bottle.

As for the Cetane boost... Save your money. . I've used it in different temps, under different conditions and never saw a change in anything. . Plus, the stuff STINKS REALLY, REALLY BAD. If you get it on your hands, Even soap doesn't take the smell away. I contemplated washing my hands in Mineral Spirits because it would have smelled better... . if that give you any idea what its like. Like I said, I'm happy with the Modifier in Winter months. . Other than that... it seems like a waste in money. Considering I'm a dealer and a 15 year ASMOIL veteran... Thats as truthfull as I can be.

I agree with the comments comparing the Cetane boost and the Diesel Fuel Modifier. The Cetane boost might help with winter blended fuel. My experience in Seattle where we have winter blended fuel but no winter, is it might have added a 1/4 mpg. I would run around 17. 5mpg in the summer and 16. 5 in the winter.

The Modifier I'll continue to use. I was amazed to see how dirty my injectors were at 20k when I changed them out. More importantly, I like to think I'm upping the lubricity of the fuel - anything to keep that VP44 happy, happy.

And oh yes, that Cetane boost is the nastiest smelling substance and it won't go away.
