I just bought 4 gallons of amsoil heavy duty 15w40 synthetic today. How often are you guys changing your oil filters and doing a oil anaylysis? I am using the normal fleetguard oil filters. I was thinking about changing the filter every 7500 and doing an analysis at 7500 and 15,000 to see how the oil was doing.

I change my filters at 5-6K and oil at double that. I've only sampled twice. I plan on changing the oil anyway so why spend the money on analysis? I've gone 15K on the stuff you've got before. That was one of the samples. Came back great. Oil was dumped 3 weeks before analysis came back.

I run Mobile filters. They're the ones mobile recommends for extended change intervals. They say I could go 10K, but since I get them cheap, why not just change it??

I got but have'nt instaled yet a dual bypass system , and when it is plan on changing the filters about 7,000-10,000 , do the analisys at 3,000-5,000 till it seems like the readings are stable and good results ,
I've been looking into this for some yrs and used in other viehicals .
So far I've only heard of one bad result from a member that was getting bad oil anylisis , I do not have enough info from him to use that as a reason not to use syn. but will keep an eye out more becouse of .
This is one of those that have claims that have exstream storiers at both ends so its difficult to know with out doing your own expairaments .

I've been an Amsoil guy for about 15 years now. Ran it in a first gen Cummins, 96 Powerstroke and now my new 3rd gen Cummins :) .

I run Fleetguard filters and change both at 5K miles. I know I could go longer on the oil and/or filters if I ran a bypass system, but I like the knowledge that there's fresh oil in it every 5K.

I got 125K out of my first gen before I bought the Ford. Got 165K out of it, sold it to a guy that says he's got 190K on it w/no problems at all. Still runs this oil; buys it from me. New Ram at 30K and I expect to get 250K or better.

Some don't believe in Amsoil, says it's a waste of money. Well, I think it's worth the money since most of us spent more than 35K on these rigs.

with the by pass filter on my truck i go about 25-30k between oil changes---do oil analisis, this is with all the mods you can think of. amsoil makes a quality product. :D

Thanks for your thoughts, guys. I was just curious and want to keep my motor in its prime for years to come. My last oil analysis at 16k showed very average #s and I figured it was ready for some synthetic. I am going to miss the old rotella smell now that I've gotten used to it.

I run same oil with Amsoil filters, change filter between 12. 5K & 15K, oil between 25 & 30 K. 230K + on '97 with no problem, 90K on '03 so far. No doubt in my mind it will be fine a lot longer.

I'm running a powerstroke right now with just under 28k on the oil and changing the filter every 5k. The truck has 96k on it and have not had a problem. No bypass either. If the oil has lasted that long in a powerstroke without foaming that tells you that it is good oil.

Oh by the way I'm running series 3000 5/30 just because of the powerstroke. The last sample (through the dipstick) showed no metal wear or excess soot.

I run the same oil also along with Fleetgaurd filters, no bypass. Change out my filter and top off @ 10-12k and then dump it all in another 10-12k. Analysis comes back great except the last 2 showed "abnormal" amounts of copper... "possibly due to faulty lube oil cooler", not quite sure about that just yet, any ideas?

I'm at 65,000 miles and have been changing my Rotella and Fleetguard at about 12,000 miles. I have an analysis done every oil change. It's cheap insurance for a $45,000 truck. My numbers continue to come back looking great. I should start changing the filter at 7,500 and the oil at 15,000. If the analysis shows any increase, I would just adjust that back to the 12,500 range. It's worked so far and nothing has blown apart.

I've been reluctant to switch to the Amsoil. I was driving so many miles there for awhile, I would have been ordering oil every other month. It was just easier to stop in at Tractor Supply and buy the Rotella. I do run Amsoil in the diffs and will in the transmission and t-case as soon as I get around to do my 40,000 mile transmission flush. ;)

I run the same oil but use Donaldson oil filters. I change my oil & filters about every 8,000 miles. Sofar the truck has 162,000 plus miles on it with no problems. I like the stuff so much I became a dealer. You can find the Donaldson oil filters on the Amsoil website. They are the filters they recommend to use w/thier oil.
