400 Mile Observations..........

47RE/48Re What are the differences

I'm a long time Amsoil user but need to know a few things before I start changing my truck over.

1) At about how many miles are y'all changing the NV5600 (what a honker that thing is huh?) over and what is everyone using?

2) I'm figuring 75w-90 or 75W-140 in the rearend. What is everyone using?

3) Since I'm not towing anything right now, how many miles should pass before I switch the motor over?

4) Where are y'all mounting your dual remote?

Thanks Crew

I'm currently using the Amsoil Series 2000 75w90 in my rear end and when I hit the 15,000 mile mark I will be switching the front over also.

As far as the engine is concerned I would figure by 15,000 miles things should be broken in and ready for the switch.

I wouldn't switch over the engine until 15k or so. If you plan to tow heavy I would go for the 75-140 but otherwise save the coin and use the 75-90. Thats what I use but I do not tow much and when I do it is rarely over 5k. Can't speak to the nv5600 as I have an auto nor can I answer about the dual remote on an 04. On my 01 I have it mounted off of a mount on the passenger side battery with no problems in 90k. Have heard of others mounting down by the radiator cross member but again don't know if that will work on an 04.

Looks good Wayne but mine is a dual-remote. I'm not sure if it will fit or not. I'll just have to size it up and see. Thanks

"One is the overpriced dealer stuff"

I paid about $10 a quart for the DC specified "overpriced dealer stuff" at the local dealership - how much are you guys "saving" on whatever you are replacing it with?

If we are talking about the NV5600 lube, I paid about $50 for a case of 12 qts. You can do the math. It is the same spec as the mopar stuff. I used 6 qts for my 30K service, and sold the other 6 qts to a TDR member for my cost plus shipping. I think I still have 2 qts left over. When I checked the price at the dealer, they quoted me about $15 / qt.
