Amsoil hypocrisy for profit now using hydrocracked base stocks

I was recently informed that Amsoil has decided to use the Hydrocracked base stock (group III) in their XL7500 oil brand.

They were among the first to come out and publicly condem

Castrol for doing the same thing. They have decided to put profit before anything else. Evidenced by their comments in the past about how the Hydrocracked oils were inferior and should be much cheaper in price than their fully synthetic non hydroprocessed oils are. Further, they are reducing the price a whopping twenty cents a quart. Still over $4. quart. This is totally rediculous. They used to say the hydrocracked oils should be 1/2 the cost of their fully synthetic oils and that oil companies were screwing the customers selling them hydrocracked oils and calling them synthetic. Too bad Amsoil has decided to reduce the cost a pitiful 20 cents a quart and join the other so called "bad oil marketers"

Im curious as to what all the dealers on here have to say about this. Did you guys call Amsoil and voice your opinions on what is truly hypocrisy on Amsoils part?

Sweet, an oil thread, the forums have been to quiet lately, and im getting tired of reading about trannies and sled pullinOo. Oo. Bring the:-{}

I was always suspicious of an oil company claiming to be the best ever and then selling it via a cardboard sign in someones front yard.

Way to light the candle under the rocket Don. I forsee this one reaching the moon. :D :D

I've been waiting for a good Amsoil thread for a few months!

Its all about $$$$! Can you say pyramid? I'm still waiting for the dealers of this hyped up (IMO) stuff to come up with a 1/2 million mile Cummins with "their" juice in it. More questions than answers, baffled?, not at all. just entertained by the "medicine men" of today.

Why pay more to do the same? "Oh but you can go 15,000 miles on an oil change". Where do the cumbustion by-products go... acids for instance.

I am certain by now that most intellegent folks are tired of having that intellegence be insulted by lofty, unfounded claims brought to us by none other than the dealers of scam filled products. There is a reason that many products remain unchanged through the years, this is simply known as time proven. Wanna buy a diesel engine with aluminum heads?... . didn't think so.

In closing, its a free country, your money and your truck so do as you please.

IMHO... . if you want to buy Amsoil,Delo,LE. . its up to the person that is spending the money. . its their money! If you dont like a product or what they say or do... DON"T USE IT!!!!!But is it worth starting product bashing???????

Please forgive my attitude. .

On this I do agree... .

Don, not to burst your bubble but...

Amsoil's XL7500 is a reduced cost alternative to their line of 100% synthetics for gas engines. Obviously (to some anyway), this would mean you are not receiving the epitome of their product line for the moderate price this particular product sells for.

Amsoil also offers a 15W-40 semi-synthetic Diesel engine oil that competes with their own 15W-40 Heavy-Duty Diesel & Marine, 12 TBN, 100% synthetic counterpart.

What is your point Don? Maybe you should look into the facts before spouting off.

Also, as you may or may not know, Mobil was the first to publicly criticize Castrol for using hydrocracked basestocks, and subsequently calling them synthetic lubricants.

You 'da man, Don. It's been a while since I've read all the reasons why AMSOIL is out of this world. My 5-pt is fastened and tight. Oo. I too, repsect anyone's right to spend their $ as they see fit, but it's fun anyway. Nothin' but Rotella here.

Ya know guys... ... ... . who cares? I've got Rotella in the engine and Amsoil in the other parts, but I just plain don't care what Don or anybody else uses.

C'mon guys, give the Amsoil salesmen a chance to receive their official viewpoint from: "I would like to hear Amsoil's response to it, not my own". This usually takes about two days.

:D You go Don!! You drive Amsoil out of business and I'll take out the rest!! :D :-laf

Just kidding!! :D I am of the opinion that anyone could go as long as they want on an oil change. A million miles from $0. 99 Flag oil with no changes? It could be done. It might take a few engines to do it though. ;) I'll stick with common sense on my oil changes: the longer you leave the oil in, the faster it will wear out. Most oil is cheaper than an engine, but Amsoil might be an exception, I don't know.

I know whatever is said will be twisted to fit Don's opinion, but I'll try to address his points.

First off, no, we as dealers are not happy about this. But they had no choice and I'll explain.

The XL line is, and always has been designed to market for the quick lube shops. Being that, it had to have the API starburst and also had to be competitive. It was a full synthetic.

Now, Amsoil corp never made mention of Castrol, it was always dealers. The issue was that Castrol lied and hid the subject. If you called and asked, they would dance around it. And if you remember, it was Mobil who took public issue with this practice by breaking down their oil in a lab and complaing to the API for false advertisement. Mobil is using many of these base stocks now, and they aren't hypocrytical? Let's not single out anyone now.

Now, once the API announced in these hearings that they refused to define synthetics, it was deamed a marketing term. It left the market open for most of them to do this. Now, you might say, "why follow suit"? They were forced into it. When Ford announced their new oil gradee 5w-20, Amsoil needed an additive package from Lubrizol that met API specs. Guess what? No other oil would make a full PAO based synthetic and Amsoil could not get a PAO based Syn because they would have to bear the entire cost of deveopling a tested additive package for API certification. The new 5w-20 would cost 15. 00 a quart if they chose to do this. Remember the competitive part? This is happening now in most of the grades. The additive component companies are slowing down production of additive packages that meet API certification in the 10w-30, 5w-30, and 10w-40 grades because NON ONE WANTS THEM BUT AMSOIL.

Now, back to the hypocracy issue. How did you find out? Because Amsoil has made it perfectly clear what they have done. They put it in print. That's what we as dealers, not Amsoil corp,, had a problem with Castrol about,, HIDING it. We did not.

Now, to the cost. Base III oils are like synthetic blends. A syn blend can be 2 percent syn and 98 percent petro, and the other way around, and you would expect them to be the same cost? Oil base stocks are the same way. The cost and effort put into the base stock determines the cost. Point is, they reduced the cost, told you waht they were doing, gave you the reasons, and you still go out of your way, but that never surprised me.

Now the last issue, is this never applied to the diesel oils, nor any oil that most of you would ever buy. In fact, I don't know any dealers thatt even sell this oil to begine with. It was sold in quick lube shops where it's competition wass completely petro oils and hydrocracked oils. It was a buisiness decision, things change.

And like I said, I'm sure there will be a twisted resonse to this by Don to continue making his point, but at least those interested will know the facts.
