I just turned 12k on my "01" 2500 ETH. Happy to say no problems, (well the steering stinks, yes I've tried different tire pressures and tightened the gearbox).
My question is does the Amsoil oil filter flow enough for the Cummins? I think that when I ordered a case of 5w-30w and filter that the salesman told me it was a 5 micron filter. After looking back through old TDR issue 26 "Scott Dalgleish" on the bypass system, this type of filter does not supply enough flow? I'm not looking to use the extended oil change interval, I just want the best for my truck.

I have been using the SDF80 since I had a 95,98 and now 00. Son has a 99 too. Never no problems. We change filters at 5000 and oil/filter at 10000. We dont't take any samples. I know we could go longer on oil if we did but we don't. And thats my way.

Scott,
Regardless of manu'f
I am not aware of any by-pass filter that will flow enough oil to maintain the engine. . by itself. If it does, its nothing more than a filter relocation kit.

The purpose of a true by-pass filter is to remove contaminints a full flow filter simply is not capable of handling.

As an example, Full flow filters are "rated" to remove 20-30 micron particles. Premium filters are somewhere's around 10-20 microns.
Neither remove water or anti-freeze.
FWIW: Blackstone's website states that this is the biggest "killer" of engines.

By-pass filters are "rated" to remove 1/10th-1 micron. Some units are only rated for 1-5 micron. . which is still FAR better than a full flow by itself. As you can imagine, flow is dramatically less than a full flow. Hence it cannot be used by itself,
a full flow filter is still required.

BTW: Assuming the Amsoil filter is an SDF-xx, it is ok to use. The spin-on "by-pass" filters are (BE-xx).

Hope this helps
