I have just switched to Amsoil after having 90,00 on my truck. I took a 300 mile trip and it does seem like the engine runs smoother& quieter. I used the 15-40 marine Deisel. I have a few questions for those who have used it for a while. The specs say it can go up to 2 times longer than standard oil. Can it go longer ?? I have seen the big rigs using some type of synthetic that claims to go 25,00 miles between changes. I am also in need of a trans fluid change for my automatic. Has anyone used the trans fluid & what results should I look for ?? Same questions about the fuel additives. I always like to study new products closely before I invest my hard earned $$$ on them. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

If you are using the AMSOIL Bypass filter setup, you'll "probably" never change your oil again. You change the small filter every 7500 miles and the large filter every 15,000 miles. At each filter change, you'll send in an oil sample and if the results are good, keep running the oil. The ATF+4 AMSOIL is the best oil I ever used. I traded in my 98 Auto for this truck. My 98 used to have a shudder problem. The AMSOIL fixed that problem and dropped the transmission temp by 50 degrees. Well worth the money. If you need a Bypass filter, I have an extra one that I used as a transmission filter. It is only 3 months old. It also has an oil sampling port on the side using a leak proof "ball cock' instead of the cheap valve. Good luck, Scot

Amsoil makes some really good products. I would not recommend extending past 2X unless you were doing an oil analysis. A bypass filter is available which can enable you to extend the oil farther but oil analysis is still recommended. I run the synthetic transmission fluid and the synthetic gear lube in my truck. The transmission temps fell about 20 degrees while towing. I would suggest paying the $20. 00 a year dealer fee and purchase it yourself. You can recoup the $20 the first time you change the oil and filter... CJ

I ran the 15W40 for three 25K cycles and now the 5W30 for 2 cycles. I run stock filtration (micorglass and now stratopore). Change filter ever 6K and grab sample to send in. I live in ND, and my truck is pulled hard. Winters are very hard on oil!

I have never had a sample come back recommending oil change! I change at 25K as it is long enough for me.

I would say you could easily run 20K per change or once per year. The less you drive the harder it is on the oil.

Where do you buy AMSOIL?

From a dealer. Several of us TDR members are dealers; I'm one, too. You can also become a dealer yourself. Amsoil now has a program where folks can buy their products without becoming a dealer.

Other more active, experienced, dealers can fill in the details better.

Which bypass filter do you use (size)? I just faxed in my Preferred Customer form this morning and want to order up some of their 15W-40 and that bypass kit, but I don't know which size bypass filter to get.

I'm also due to flush the transmission, so I'll get some of the ATF+4. How much do I need for a complete refill on a stock 47RE + a BD low-stall TC and stock pan?

Thanks.

Rob

<font color=blue> Rob,
I'm running the single by-pass system with the BE-100 filter along with the AmsOil full flow filter. I think if I had it to do over again I would have gone with the HD 5W/30 AmsOil instead of the 15W/40.

I use the BE-100 bypass and a full flow with 15W40 year round. The full transmission/tc change uses 17 qts.

It sounds like Amsoil gives me better protection and will save money in oil changes in the long run. What is the cost of oil analysis? Are there many places that perform these types of tests?

Thanks!

<font color=blue>There are many different places to have it done, just look around. I currently use BlackStone Lab . It usually costs $18. 50, but been told its slightly cheaper if you are a member of the TDR. I have only done one oil change so far. Like I said there are MANY different places to have it donw, just do a small search on the Web.

This is a little off the original topic but this is a question about Amsoil. Those of you that signed up for the preferred customer, how long did it take to get set up so that you could purchase at the reduced prices?

Thanks,

Darren
