First off, this thread is NOT intended to start another "oil war"... . :-{}

Just switched from Mobil Delvac1 5w-40 synthetic to Amsoil synthetic & noticed that I now have NO blow-by oil coming out of the puke tube..... This is even after a hard run, where before with the Delvac, I would often have a couple of drops! Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, but I have a hard time believing that the switch to Amsoil 15w-40 HDD is doing it. Anyone wanna comment on this interesting phenomenon? I thought as engines get older, you get MORE oil puking out of the tube, not less...

FWIW, I have 93,000mi on the engine, 23K of which have been heavily bombed... . :cool:

I can say that when I switched from the amsoil 5-30 to the 15-40 I noticed a marked decrease in blowby as well.

Blow by is combustion pressure seeping by the rings. All engines have it and it is normal. I dont think that an oil (insert favorite brand here) could stop it by making the rings seal perfectly. I bet there in another explanation for what you are seeing. Wish I knew what it was.

Amsoil

Have my truck approximately 3 months. The original owner used Amsoil 15-40 right after his first oil change. ( Which I'm going to continue ) No blow by!:)

I had just the opposite experience...

When I switched from Dino to Amsoil 5W-30 I immediately starting seeing additional blowby. I have since switched back to Rotella T 15W-40. My blowby has decreased considerably.

Please don't think this means I don't like Amsoil products. I have Amsoil in the transmission, transfer case and the diff's. The only reason why I switched was because it was not cost effective for me to continue using Amsoil. My SOOT levels are too high to do extended drain intervals... hhhmmm... . maybe a little too much fuel... :D ... yeah right... not possible... :D

Amsoil

I had alot of blow by when using whatever the dealer put in my truck. When I swithced to Amsoil there is NO blow by at all. I used to have to clean the mess up every time I washed my truck. Now I have not had a mess in 2 years, and very little, to none in the puke bottle. This is just my experience, not sure what made the difference. :cool: :D
