Well I have seen alot of people ask about oil so just before I switched my truck over to amsoil ame 15-40 from delo 400 I took an oil sample with 5276 miles on the delo and then after I had ran the amsoil for 5466 miles I sampled it, here are the results.

delo 400 ci-4+ amsoil 15-40(ame)

5,276 miles on oil 5,466

26,350 miles on unit 31,460

25 iron 29

1 chromium 1

4 lead 5

2 copper 3

0 tin 0

5 aluminum 3

0 nickel 0

1 silver 1

8 silicon 4

139 boron 18

7 sodium 9

11 magnesium 14

3454 calcium 3661

0 barium 0

1277 phosphorus 1260

1512 zink 1462

199 molybdenum 24

0 titanium 0

0 vanadium 0

0 potassium 0

<1 fuel <1

14. 64 vis@100c 12. 39

0 water 0

. 9 soot (%wt) . 9

no coolant no

I hope someone can use this info. Now for all you oil guys, why would the amsoil show vis@100c at 12. 39 when amsoil specs show 14. 4 vis@100 for this oil? thanks

Dale

Thanks for the comparison.

Is the Amsoil a CJ-4 or CI-4+?

The high moly & boron count show up in your testing of the Delo CI-4+. That was one of the reasons that the Delo was considered to be such a high quality oil.

Are you running ULSD or LSD fuel?

I just did an oil change on my '03 HO & my Boron was @ 138 & the Moly was @ 295. This was with 63117 on the odometer, 9342 on the oil (Chev. Delo 400, 15-40, CI-4+) & the oil was in the crankcase for just shy of a year old with some towing (little).

The comments from Empire-Caterpillar (oil testing lab. ) were:

No Action Required. No problems presently asociated with this sample. Continue sampling at the normal interval.

I've never tried Amsoil products but, have heard that in recent years, they have hired a new "top man" that has improved the quality of their products & I wouldn't be concerned about using them, at all.

The Amsoil spec. of 14. 4 cSt@100 C is for a NEW oil. I would check with the Lab to see if this reading is correct. I have over 64. 000 on my Amsoil AME 15W-40 and the Visc. reading is 13. 99 cSt@100 C.
