For years, the call of the Army has been, "BE all that you can be!" Now, due to poor recruitment stats, they're re-targetting our youth.
Clinton's parting shot for the Army is, "I am an Army of one. " Yeah right.
March your little solitary self across hostile real estate without an agressive infantry unit, reconnaisance, engineering, intelligence, air support, artillery, armored, signal, logistics, quartermaster, medics, special forces, airlift, legal services, med-evac, surveilance, and on, and on, and on. Army of one, my a$$.
When that sorry commie piece of doo-doo leaves as Commander-in-Chief watch the recruitment stats go through the roof.
THERE, now I feel better #ad

"SHAKE, RATTLE, AND ROLL"

I was interpreting it more as a parallel to the old "Ultimate Weapon" statue that I marched past numerous times at Ft Dix,NJ. still beats "join the people who've joined the army", although, "our drill sergeants have issues" might actually be a little closer to "truth in advertizing"... LOL
How'bout "dress like a tree and do pushups til ya puke" ---heeheehee, i kill me! (ex-reserve drill sgt 1985-1991)

I hope it goes up soon, because the Clinton era has decimated our military. For now, I am my own army, and I have to protect myself like that every day at work. Anyone that is capable of getting a concealed carry license should do so, for yourself, you family, and others around you. Dont be fooled, the real battle for most of us is happening in our own cities, and we need to conduct ourselves accordingly. Just my paranoid opinion.

My daughter was interested in joining the AirForce after high school but decided not to. Good thing, she still gets mail from the recruiter, every time they up the ante. Last time they offered $10k up front before joining, plus paying for 4 years of collage. They don't call it being on duty anymore, they call it going to work. Looking thru their collage catalog they offer some real interesting majors-Nuclear Munitions Management being one of them. She decided she didn't want the commitment,I can't blame her.

I think your daughter should go into the service. What job out there is going to give her 10K as a bonus with no experience? What job is going to give her 30 days of paid leave plus federal holidays starting day 1? What job out there is going to teach her respect, discipline, and give her a sence of pride for public service? What job out there is going to guarantee a retirement with medical benefits starting day 1? Each person has there own reasons for joining (or not joining) the military, and this is a decision I respect either way. I went from a corporate job working for the VP of a computer company, to active duty service in the Army. I can say all those I was working with either got fired or laid off 6 months after I went active. Will they have a retirement??? NO. I work about 180 days a year. 4-10 hour days a week plus all the holidays and 30 days leave. The only catch is that I might end up in a god forsaken place in the world for 6 to 9 months someday. That is a price I am willing to pay for all the benifits that I have enjoyed for the last 10 years.

All of the branches have struggled with recruits. . except one (proud smile) the Marine Corps. They have hit the target every quarter, every year. Kind of neat considering you see or hear an Army, Navy, or Air Force commercial every other day, and rarely hear or see a Marine commercial.

You CAN BE:
in the ARMY
in the NAVY
in the AIR FORCE
and in the COAST GUARD
but; YOU "ARE" A MARINE!

The Army brass needs its "brass" kicked for promoting such an idea. What an embarrassment.

Illflem, my little brother joined the army, then later on the NG. Active 2 years. He went to college and got his BS in Mechanical Engineering for free.
He actually MADE MONEY to go to college.
This was a highly respected college, not jerkwater U.

If I had it all to do again, I'd probibally do it all differently. I have no regrets, and I'm "comfortable with myself", very good income, happily married etc, etc, but I can say without a doubt, I *F*'ed off a little too much jobwise and schoolwise.

Thanks for the input guys,I agree the service is a very good option nowadays, much better than when I was drafted in '68. I encouraged my daughter to check out the AirForce, but the decision was ultimately hers. Since then she has moved out on her own working nights while going to collage, even though she's not sure what she wants to do she's happy and productive as a 19 year old can be.
If she hadn't have moved out and took care of herself I would have basically kicked her out of the nest. It's great that the service is there to catch them. I see too many 25 year olds living with their parents,to me it's BS,makes weak kids. Chad, she also checked out the Marines said she felt like she would be the only white face there, that didn't go over very well.

We're all green after graduation. Its a culture shock. You meet and learn to listen and work with people from all other walks of life. Very hard and frustrating at first. Once you fully understand the role you have taken on, and understand the respect you must have for yourself as well as for your fellow Marines, past, present and future, your life becomes much easier.

At one time up into the 80's I believe, the only way a female could join the Corps was by submitting a photo along with physical fitness results to the Commandants office. If you were "ugly" you didn't make it in. Needless to say that got changed.

She might check into the reserve program. 2 years instead of 4-6, and the reservist get rank very quick. They also get first priority when it comes to training due to the fact they have civilian jobs they have to return to. They do the same boot camp as the rest of us, and learn the same things as the rest of us. I work with a kid in the reserve program. I would love to be in his shoes. He's 21, working for CAT making $20/hour, and gets training from the Marines which makes him shine even more in the eyes of the Human Resource people, and I belive he can join up full time if he wants, keep his job with CAT untill he gets back. What a deal.

The lines between active and reserve are almost non existent. Just ask about 800 of my fellow guardsmen that returned from Bosnia. The 49th (Lone Star) Division was in charge of the NATO peace keeping forces in Bosnia. I just read today that the Guard and Reserves are going to be rotating into the nuclear weapons arena. Reservists and Guardsmen in North Dakota will be put on rotation from everything to guarding nuclear weapons to having there finger on the button in the Missile silo. The standards, background checks, and security clearances for placing the personnel are the same as the active component.

In case you don't get it the " army of one " is the Clintonista commie pinko's stab at breaking down unit cohesiveness by trying to isolate the recruits mentally instead of uniting them into a unified, cohesive group of cannon fodder.

I got over 350 different chnls. I would love to see some leatherneck recruiting stuff. Must be a regional thing. I've only seen 1 in about 6 months. Probably a good thing because I belted out a loud grunt for everyone #ad

Lest we all forget: the NAVY gets 'em all where they need to be, except the Air Force, and that's because their airplanes are too slow and cumbersome for a REAL fight!

We're all giving Clinton hell over this, but this is something the Army voted to do. Its just a gimmick to try and get more recruits. Remember the old Navy posters with Don Gartlits "launching" his dragster on an aircraft carrier. I doubt Gerald Ford or Jimmy Carter had anything to do with it.

If you were the head mofo in charge for the Army, would you aprove this? The people who aproved this have been in for many moons, and seen several Presidents in 30 years. Clinton has no more to do with this than Bush or Reagan.

That "Few Good Men" quate the Marines use has been in use since it first appeared on a recruiting poster over 230 years ago in the Colonies. Everyone from the President down to every liberal congress person and feminin group around has been crying about it for the last 50 years, but we're still holding our ground.

I strongly second JNutter's post. When I was in the Army from 1985 - 1988, one of the most important lessons you learned in basic training was teamwork! You go into a dangerous area and face the enemy and act as an individual, you'll come home in a rubber bag, if at all. Now Klinton wants the young recruits of today to believe that they can come into the military and F off just like they have done at home back on the block. No responsibility, do whatever you want... Come to think of it, that's the same outstanding role modelling he's done for us all as president the last 8 years, isn't it??

My greatest respect, admiration and thanks to all Veterans!

Tom

Hey Bill, if your girl wants to see a good Marine show, the History chnl is having a new Marine show on this Monday at 9:00 (pst). Its going to be two hours long and is going to focus on the role Marine NCO's play. Should be very interesting viewing material.

Being since Monday is MLK day, it will either be that or 30 different chnls of Jesse Jackson and Lewis Farakahn stirring the pot. I'll be tuned into the History chnl.
