Rotella T causing low fuel mileage?

DD2's

OK, MDW and I installed DD2's in the truck this weekend, and the stock clutch is already giving indications it's not real happy! My problem is, I have to hitch up our 13,500 lb 36' 5th wheel RV for a trip before the South Bend Con OFE I ordered this morning can be installed and broken in.

To make life easier on the stock clutch until it gets changed out, can I unplug the data link plug on the EZ to kill the extra fueling and leave the MAP cable plugged in so that the "boost fooler" portion of the EZ still works? In other words, is the EZ getting its power from the CANbus link or the data link? Any other problems with doing this?

I can understand that - with the Comp removed, there's no boost fooler in the circuit, so you would have to hook it up in the stock configuration. In my case, I'm not removing the EZ - the boost fooler wiring will still be in place.

I just thought someone might have tried unplugging the data link plug when they dynoed to get a "with and without the EZ" reading. If so, they would know if they threw an overboost code with the data link plug removed.

If I don't get an answer, I'll certainly call Aaron at Edge Products and find out.

Not sure about disconnecting the data port only - would like to know the answer to that as well.

You could just jumper 1 AND 2 to put it in TIMING ONLY mode. Would help the clutch out a little...

Why not save yourself a lot of work and not throttle it so hard until you get the clutch installed. The slipping of the clutch is directly proportional to the movement of the right foot :p

Yes, I understand that. However, when towing a heavy 5th wheel, it's easy to step over the line unwittingly - such as when climbing a steep entrance ramp to I-10 while accelerating to merge with 70 MPH traffic. :(

If I can just take some torque out of the engine temporarily, it will alleviate a lot of worry and hassle during this trip. I'd like to get the power turned down to the point that I can't slip the clutch - like I was with the EZ and stock injectors - until the new clutch is installed and broken in. :)

AFAIK, you can unplug the data link connector to have only a boost fooler. I've ran like that before when I was trying to troubleshoot some other problems.

Or, you can set the EZ back to 1 so that you only pick up timing and extra fuel whenever you get up over 20psi.

You were lucky, my clutch didn't appreciate just the EZ by itself. Of course, it's failure opened the door to get the 2's right after the clutch went in.

For those who were interested, I received a PM from Keith Lockliear of Diesel Dynamics who advised that you could pull the data link cable on the EZ and just run it as a boost fooler. Alternately, if you have the DD version of the EZ, you can put the jumper on setting #1 (timing only) and eliminate the fueling function.

Handy information to have on hand.
