I've always been on guard when it comes to mechanics especially when it's something I know little about like automatic transmissions. They are an ridddle wrapped in an enigma. I've been told by a friend that worked for an auto transmission shop that they invest very little money into the fix and the profits are huge. So when I had issues w/ my auto transmission earlier this week I called up my mechanic and he sent me to his transmission guy. I told them the symptoms and right away I got the "sounds like it needs a rebuild. " "approx. $2800 to $3000. " I left it w/ them for diagnostics. I called back about six hours later since I had not heard form them yet. I was told that they could not find anything wrong yet and could not replicate the problem I had described. I was told that they wanted to keep it overnight and look into it further the next day. The next day around 10:00am I recieced a call from them stating that they could not replicate the problem and were getting no codes. He said "I can't fix something if it isn't broke. " I said great I'll come pick it up and pay you what I owe you. He then said "I didn't fix anything and you don't owe me anything. " I went to pick it up and again offered to pay them something and they refused. I still feel I owe them some money because they did spend time on my vehicle looking into a problem I thought I had. Even if there is no problem he paid his mechanic to spend time on my vehicle.
The reason for this post is that there are still good people out there that value thier pride, word, and reputation and will not be compromised for easy money.
Since I don't want this to seem like a commercial post I will not list which company this was. If you live in the Denver area and would like the name of this transmission shop please feel free to PM or email me.
