I mounted mine with nyloc nuts. Not likely to vibrate out of position. I have had no problems, but driving the truck much less now.

Actually I hardly ever use regular nuts and lock washers on anything anymore for the same reason.

That would be my first choice as well - but dunno if they are locally available in the smaller size needed - will have to check...

Sorry to rain on your parade Mike, BUT...

My "Gary-fied" APPS with MS worked flawlessly for about 8k and then last week I started getting 0222 codes. Checked that MS and found it needed some "precision" alignment which I did. Couple days later, same code, same adjustment. Couple more days same code. Finally discovered that the two small nuts/bolts that hold the MS to the bracket had loosened and would not hold proper position. Tightened and now no more codes. My guess is vibration so anyone with a MS may want to consider threadlock or perhaps starwashers.

Godspeed,

Trent

Trent, If that's all the problems we have with the APPS we're looking pretty good. Given the alternative (DC APPS @ $500. 00 a whack!) I'll take what we've come up with here any day. A little Loctite and you should be good to go.

Mike

Mike,

Agreed that, thanks to you guys, we are way ahead of the curve as far as the APPS is concerned! My post was meant more as a heads up than anything and it happened to coincide with the timing of your previous post. No harm done here.

Godspeed,
Trent

Actually, I had specifically asked both Trent an Phil to keep us all informed as to problems or observations concerning use of the APPS setups I had provided - and I appreciate their comments, even to the point of nit-picking if need be... ;):-laf

Still "flawless" in operation. . Next time I get under the hood will remove the plastic cover and probably either dab a drop of epoxy, locktite, fingernail polish (uhmm borrowed of course), or at least something on the ms fasteners to secure them in place. Don't want to touch anything else since its working so well!

I'm in a POOR location - pirating someone's Wireless connection - makes responding pretty iffy - sorry, be back home tomorrow...

In my own defense in regards to the MS mounting screws, I figured they would need final, fine adjustment at time of actual installation, so didn't really tighten them fully - shoulda pointed that out in my non -instructions! :-laf:-laf

My own has been fine since install...

One word about the wifi. . "Cantenna". (big chunky chili cans work well - but of course thats just what "they" tell me, Id never do anything like that)

Well, I for one am very happy with the APPS you fixed up for me, and if all it might need is a little "fixing things in place" thats no biggie. I look at it the same way the exhaust brake works. It is actuated off a micro switch mounted close to the accelerator pedal and once I got it in the perfect position, I potted the fasteners in with epoxy. That was about 7 yrs ago and it still works like it did when new. Gotta love it. .

Just thought I'd bump this to the top. There seem to be a few "APPS" questions popping up lately and this thread should get everyone up to speed.

Mike

YUP - no use re-inventing the wheel - been getting a few personal PM's from guys looking for Tim for one of his excellent replacement APPS units - guys don't seem able to contact him - hope he's OK, and still turning out replacements.

My own "cheapie", $10 unit is still on my truck, and functioning perfectly... Oo.

Apps / tps

I have one from Tim ,so far so good. No problems!
Rick

I've replaced both 1999 auto and 2001. 5 6 speed a number of years ago with Tim's discovery/modification. I think I bought a spare or two a couple of years later just to keep the originals from ever failing. No problems to this day... .

Good JOB on this one folks!... ...

I'd have to say pretty much both... . his is an industrial/commercial part used with some Cummins applications that has been adapted to our wire harness. It works good...

So, is the Timbo unit better than stock or just cheaper?

I replaced the factory APPS with the APPS from Timbo in 09 and it started crapping out in Jan of 2016. I just received another from Timbo yesterday and will install it this weekend. So the factory unit lasted about 6 years and the Timbo unit lasted 7 years. Wish I had kept track of the milage but I didn't. :( I just figured out today about the Williams control 131973 part number. The value in the Timbo unit is the wire harness is made for you and basically plug and play. The Timbo price was $165 vs my local dealer price of $629 it is a great value.

Welcome Kirk.

I imagine as old as the posts are with the pics, the pics are actually gone. Maybe Admin will step in and tell us for sure.
