auto to NV4500

Need a motor????

Lee,

That's very cool. One thing I would strongly suggest is that you keep all the original parts you remove, in case you ever decide to bring it back to stock. You never know...

where to start.

the dodge dana 60 fits with no spring/spring hanger modifications. ill have to move/extend the passenger side perch about 1/2" and im done. the axle is between 1/8" centered as in these pictures. nothing has been done since the last time i took pictures of the axle.

i got my transmission/transfer case today and decided to play around a little.

1) i am mounting the 4bt with the gm nv4500 and adapter plate. this is for several reasons.

a) the starter is on the passenger side because if you use tthe dodge stuff then the starter on the drivers side will hit the steering gear.

b) this also gives me a 10 degree lean and swings the oil pan away from the differential, AND it allows me to run the stock exhaust manifold and NOT cut the firewall as well as the exhaust will run inside the frame like OEM. i believe paul had some interference issues with his setup.

2) the lean is not really necessary, but i will not have to notch the oilpan AT ALL, or modify the suspension in any way.

3) there is PLENTY of room under the hood!!! i have plenty of room for the air conditioning stuff to.

4) there is 3. 5" of depth for an electric fan.

no real problems i can see.

Just giving you a bump to the top of the list. Your project choices deserve it. Very nice start, looking forward to following your progress. Very wise choice in the driveline choices, it should be yet another strong runner for you.

the engine and transmission fit better than they did in the m715. the engine is REAL low, and i like it! my center of gravity should be lower than it was stock, which is nice considering the 3/4 ton body was lowered by dodge due to the 1/2 ton propensity to roll.

ill have to move the transmission floor plate hole back, and fab up some extensions for the np205. but all of that looks easy.....

ill have to fab some new engine mounts as the stock GM/Cummins mounts are BELOW the frame! i also need to fab a transmission cross member

Lee, your gonna get me in trouble with my wife. I'm starting to get the itch for one of these or a Power Wagon project.

He has already got me in trouble. I had a perfectly good running 78 Bonanza Blazer with a 400sb/700r4/203. He kept talking about the 4bt. As of yesterday it has nothing in it, but a 4bt/nv4500/205 is on the ground waiting to go in. And I'm hurting from one end to the other. Including my pocket.

Went over to Lee's yesterday after pulling my engine and the fitment is on. He's fitting everything at once without permanently mounting it to see how it will all go together.

I wonder what he's gonna do with his deuce 1/2?

Oo.
