Mt late brother and my late cousin both raced cars; in SCCA and elsewhere. I took obstacle evasion lessons from both of them which saved my life and the lives of my passengers multiple times, even in a fully laden 1 ton 4x4 CTD dually 6 spd. My cousin's son--also some sort of cousin--manages race events in Germany. All four of us learned that in driving, we did our utmost to keep the front end pointed the direction that we wanted the car to go, sometimes using oversteer as an assist. So all four of us were a little bewildered by the concept of drifting. The youngest of us, now in Europe, seems to understand the attraction a little better. The rest of us saw it as a failure of planning and tire adhesion, except in rare and brief instances.
