Stopped by a So. Jersey dealer today, showed the Srv Mngr the latest TDR mag refering to the 2 TSB's regarding 1) delayed shifting from 3rd gear and 2) low power while towing in OD. His first comment was to tell me I shouldnt tow in OD. Didnt want to get into a big thing. . just want the truck reflashed.

He said no problem... will do Mon first thing & have me out in an hour.

The question is- is there a software or dataset number that I can see to verify a change? Does a latest program do "everything"?. How do I verify, aside from coming home, hitching up, and taking the TT for a spin? Is there a printout that will show what I am looking for?

The shifting problem is very pronounced while towing, at times it seems no matter what, it just will not shift. Wouldnt mind seeing a mileage increase as well, as I still pale compared to the mpg numbers I get from others. The power in OD thing... well I am sure this will be a crap shoot, but hey, cant hurt.

Thanks for any input- look forward to reporting that a Dealership in South Jersey gives a darn.....

Don't tow in OD? My old '96 was used for towing in OD since I first got it. Towed very heavy too. It said OK in the owners manual to tow in OD. Of course that was with the big strong 47RE not the puny 48RE that's in the 3rd gens. Kind of like the doctor when told "It hurts when I do this" and the doctor says "Then don't do that". Don't you just love a dealer that gives advice contrary to the owners manual?

The answer is yes if you have a DRBIII. Not sure if a generic scan tool will work also. The part number of the module will change when flashed. That is how the DRBIII knows when to update. If your ECM PN is XXXXXXXAD and there is a flash available, it will switch to XXXXXXXAE or higher. If there are in fact two flashes available, you would end up with an XXXXXXXAF controller PN.

Dieselnerd-Thanks for the words of comfort. I have a "Big Strong" 47RE.

SAG2- Thanks for the reply, I guess I am looking for some kind of proof other than buying my own scan tool. Something like a printout from the dealerships scan tool that shows a before & after.
